Halloween

Masquerade, masquerade
Grab your mask and dont be late
Get out get out well disguised
Heat and fever in the air tonight
Meet the others at the store,
Knock on other peoples door
Trick or treat they have the choice,
Little ghosts are makin lotsa noise
But watch out. . .beware--listen. . .take care
Chorus
In the streets on halloween
Theres something going on
No way to escape the power unknown
In the streets on halloween
The spirits will arise
Make your choice, its hell or paradise
Ah--its halloween
Ah--its halloween. . .tonight!
Someones sitting in a field,
Never giving yield
Sitting there with gleaming eyes,
Waiting for big pumpkin to arise
Bad luck if you get a stone,
Like the good old charlie brown
You think linus could be right
The kids will say its just a stupid lie
But watch out. . .beware--listen. . .take care
Chorus
Listen now--we are calling you. . .
And there is magic in the air
Magic in the air. . .on halloween
Black is the night full of fright
Youll be missing the day
What will be here very soon
Changing your way
A knock at your door
Is it real or is it a dream
On trembling legs you open the door
And you scream. . . .on halloween
Darkness
Where am I now
Is there anybody out there
What has happened
Am I in heaven
Or is it hell
I can see a light comin
Its comin nearer
Its shining
Its shining so bright
Its shining on me

Halloween Parade

Theres a down town fairy singing out proud mary
As she cruises christopher street
And some southern queen is acting loud and mean
Where the docks and the badlands meet
This halloween is something to be sure
Especially to be here without you
Theres a greta garbo and an alfred hitchcock
And some black jamaican stud
Theres five cinderellas and some leather drags
I almost fell into my mug
Theres a crawford, davis and a tacky cary grant
And some homeboys lookin for trouble down here from the bronx
But there aint no hairy and no virgin mary
You wont hear those voices again
And johnny rio and rotten rita
Youll never see those faces again
This halloween is something to be sure
Especially to be here without you
Theres the born again losers and the lavender boozers
And some crack team from washington heights
The boys from avenue b and the girls from avenue d
A tinkerbell in tights
This celebration somehow get me down
Especially when I see youre not around
Theres no peter pedantic saying things romantic
In latin, greek or spic
Theres no three bananas or brandy alexander
Dishing all their tricks
Its a different feeling that I have today
Especially when I know youve gone away
Theres a girl from soho with a teeshirt saying I blow
Shes with the jive five 2 plus 3
And the girls for pay dates are giving cut rates
Or else doing it for free
The past keeps knock, knock, knocking on my door
And I dont want to hear it anymore
No consolations please for feelin funky
I got to get my head above my knees
But it makes me mad and mad makes me sad
And then I start to freeze
In the back of my mind I was afraid it might be true
In the back of my mind I was afraid that they meant you
The halloween parade
At the halloween parade
At the halloween parade
See you next year, at the halloween parade

Halloween Day

My life, just got grim
My life, on account of him
You had a chance
You could have made it again
Are you really gonna marry her on
Halloween day
Halloween day
Your wife is torn apart
Beware of her haunted heart
I thought you had a chance
I thought youd make it again
I never really thought youd marry her on
Halloween day
Halloween day
And somethings spooky in the pit of my heart
And somethings stirring in the trunk of my car
My name(? ) is itching on the roof of my houses(? )
Dont go out
Dont go out
Dont go out after
Go out after dark
After dark
After dark
After dark on
Halloween day
Halloween day
My life, just got grim
My life, on account of him
On account of him
On account of him
On account of him

At Halloween

At Halloween, when nightmares start
And all things go awry
And there come strains upon the heart
Such that we're prone to die
And all at once a startling sound
Leaps like a lion's pounce,
It's then hobgoblins come around
And when your courage counts!

At Halloween, when ghoulies go
About the business here
And howling storms begin to grow
And growl as if with fear
And lightning strikes both Man and tree
And beast that's in the field,
It's then the ghosts are plain to see
With nothing left concealed!

At Halloween, when witches fly
On broomsticks high above
And brave old dogs begin to cry
When they've all seen enough
And little girls and little boys
Are told to go to sleep,
It's then the vampires steal their toys
And all their trinkets keep!

At Halloween, when warlocks scheme
To bring all kinds of hells
And sorcerers join as a team
As wizards cast their spells
And leprechauns protect their gold
And to the death they'll fight,
It's then policemen aren't so bold
And won't go out at night!

At Halloween, when mortals pray
For sunshine once again
And for the moon to pass away
Till noon's struck by Big Ben
And scaredy cats are mortified
By teeny weeny mice,
It's then your eyes are open wide
If you're touched by surprise!

At Halloween, I stay in bed!
I won't go out at all!
The blankets hide my trembling head!
I can't stand, walk or crawl!
The lights stay on all through the night!

An Ode to Halloween

I am new to writing poems and I hope I can learn from all of you.
By the way, I learned how to write this kind of poem because of
An Ode to Christmas. Thank you very much!
An Ode to Halloween
When you see a child
In a costume scary and wild
You know it is Halloween.

When kids go trick-or-treats
And get lots and lots of sweets
You know it is Halloween.

When the trees give up their yellow leaves
And the dead give back their R.I.P.s
You know it is Halloween.

An Ode to scrumptious snacks
An Ode to skeletons that clack

An Ode to Dracula
An Ode to tarantulas
An Ode to Halloween

An Ode to the year’s best time
An Ode to clocks that chime
An Ode to Halloween

My Halloween Spirit (The Ghost That Carries The Jack-O-Lantern)

From my childhood and now to adulthood
I always knew when to expect you
I always knew when you'd come around
Because you're a part of my lifetime

You're my halloween spirit
Even though you're dressed perfectly as a ghost
While carrying a jack-o-lantern in your hands

Even though I've gotten older
You still inspire me to celebrate Halloween
As well as keeping on instilling a love for me of Halloween
The years keep on flying by
But every year since my childhood
You still know me
You still remember me
You still inspire me to celebrate Halloween
As well as still encouraging me, to have the love that I have for Halloween
Even after all these years

Today... 'The Word

Word of love and the Word made flesh
Word incarnate forever blessed
Word of life and the Word of light
Word of power and Word of might.

Word that was spoken, Word of the Lord
Word of the Law and the Word of God
Word of peace and Word eternal
Word of truth and last Word of all.

Word of wisdom and the Word of healing
Word from heaven, a Word so appealing
Word fulfilling the Word of prophecy
Word of the Spirit and Word of destiny.

Word of exhortation and Word of grace
Word of encouragement and Word of faith
Word of promise and a Word of insight
Word from the beginning and Word of delight.

Word of knowledge and a Word of boldness
Word of peace and the Word of righteousness
Word of the covenant and Word of love
Word of the Father from heaven above.

Halloween Yolin

HALLOWEEN YOLIN

Charming her smile. Black painted hat
Halloween prepared by night.
Rising from sheets of purest white
In haste she dressed, caressed the cat.
Scorpions, spiders, sable bat,
The table decked, while pumpkin bright
Inside did glow with candle light.
No pains she spared while father sat,
Eyed lips dyed in vermillion vat, -
Yet inside thoughts turned out not! Kite
Only flew to test insight.
Light-hearted talk tripped pitapat.
If Tuesday's dinner she renews
No other venu would I choose!

Needing To Be Treated And It's Halloween

You want a love depicted,
That's open free to limits.
With eyes dripping fixed on love.

And everyone you meet,
You want them left believing...
They've been picked to get your touch of love.

But then you creep and sneak and cheat,
Like a vampire seeking...
For anyone to suck them of blood.

You creep and sneak,
Like a vampire seeking...
For anyone to suck them of blood.

'Well...
I'm needing to be treated and it's Halloween.
So let me suck up all of your blood.
I said I'm needing to be treated and it's Halloween.
So let me suck up all of your blood.'

That's ghastly and too ghoulish.

'I'm needing to be treated and it's Halloween.
So let me suck up all of your blood.'

That's ghastly and too ghoulish,
And to me that's just too foolish.

'It's Halloween.
So let me suck up all of your blood.'

That's just for me too ghoulish.

'Let me suck up all of your blood.'

Is this a trick?

'I'm here to suck up all of your blood.'

You're here to trick and I wont be your treat to eat.

'Good.
I just want to suck all your blood.'

Halloween Treat

Mom and I owned only rags,
And stayed hungry for lack of food.
The utilities were always shut off,
He drank while momma stewed.

For days we had cried, our
Stomachs ached from emptiness.
Again, he was not yet home,
Bringing Momma more distress.

With painful eyes, she put me to bed,
Then tucked me in good and tight.
She whispered, “Son, please don’t get up,
For you know it’s Halloween night.

You might hear strange noises,
Just close your eyes and count sheep.
Child, no matter how frightened you get,
Stay covered and try to sleep.

I promise we’ll have a better life,
Though he has tricked us for years.
Tomorrow we’ll have a Halloween treat, ”
She winked through her bitter tears.

But knowing his evil brought me unrest,
So, my imagination was fully alive!
Then Mom made her way to the next room,
Waited patiently for him to arrive.

Around midnight he came home drunk,
Yelling and pushing Mom around.
Then suddenly he screamed, “Oh God no! ”
There followed a loud banging sound.

Next, I heard agonizing moans,
and what sounded like a cracking tree limb.
Suddenly, it became deathly quiet,
Except for Mom humming a hymn.

I dared not move a muscle,
I could hear the axe chopping hard.
Mom was singing, “It is Well, ”
From somewhere in the back yard.

Then just above her tender voice
Came the unmistakable sound,
Of our old squeaking meat grinder
And Mom clanging pots around.

XI. Guido

You are the Cardinal Acciaiuoli, and you,
Abate Panciatichi—two good Tuscan names:
Acciaiuoli—ah, your ancestor it was
Built the huge battlemented convent-block
Over the little forky flashing Greve
That takes the quick turn at the foot o' the hill
Just as one first sees Florence: oh those days!
'T is Ema, though, the other rivulet,
The one-arched brown brick bridge yawns over,—yes,
Gallop and go five minutes, and you gain
The Roman Gate from where the Ema's bridged:
Kingfishers fly there: how I see the bend
O'erturreted by Certosa which he built,
That Senescal (we styled him) of your House!
I do adjure you, help me, Sirs! My blood
Comes from as far a source: ought it to end
This way, by leakage through their scaffold-planks
Into Rome's sink where her red refuse runs?
Sirs, I beseech you by blood-sympathy,
If there be any vile experiment
In the air,—if this your visit simply prove,
When all's done, just a well-intentioned trick,
That tries for truth truer than truth itself,
By startling up a man, ere break of day,
To tell him he must die at sunset,—pshaw!
That man's a Franceschini; feel his pulse,
Laugh at your folly, and let's all go sleep!
You have my last word,—innocent am I
As Innocent my Pope and murderer,
Innocent as a babe, as Mary's own,
As Mary's self,—I said, say and repeat,—
And why, then, should I die twelve hours hence? I
Whom, not twelve hours ago, the gaoler bade
Turn to my straw-truss, settle and sleep sound
That I might wake the sooner, promptlier pay
His due of meat-and-drink-indulgence, cross
His palm with fee of the good-hand, beside,
As gallants use who go at large again!
For why? All honest Rome approved my part;
Whoever owned wife, sister, daughter,—nay,
Mistress,—had any shadow of any right
That looks like right, and, all the more resolved,
Held it with tooth and nail,—these manly men
Approved! I being for Rome, Rome was for me.
Then, there's the point reserved, the subterfuge
My lawyers held by, kept for last resource,
Firm should all else,—the impossible fancy!—fail,
And sneaking burgess-spirit win the day.
The knaves! One plea at least would hold,—they laughed,—
One grappling-iron scratch the bottom-rock

The Word

Find the word, understand the word,
Depend on the word;
The word is heaven and space, the word the earth,
The word the universe.
The word is in our ears, the word is on our tongues,
The word the idol.
The word is the holy book, the word is harmony,
The word is music.
The word is magic, the word the Guru.
The word is the body, the word is the spirit, the word is being,
The word Not-being.
The word is man, the word is woman,
The Worshipped Great.
The word is the seen and unseen, the word is the existent
And the non-existent.
Know the word, says Kabir,
The word is All-powerful.

Halloween On The Barbary Coast

Well, the retards laughed
When the evening came
The librium makes them
All the same
And boy, you still got
Shit for brains
Its halloween on the coast again
Well the clowns roll in
And the line never ends
We get the last part
We get the bends
And the bends always last
Till the blast
And they sucked us down in the hole again
And its halloween on the barbary coast
Well, the mothers smiled
When the morning came
Under the christmas tree
They looked all the same
And boy, you still got
Shit for brain
And its halloween all over again

On Halloween

On Halloween the sky was scarred
With full moon stuck, a piercing shard,
Within a hole, the eye of night,
Above the smell of death and fright,
Along a bone laced boulevard.

The corpses, dragged from crypts unbarred,
The flames, they gazed, with pale regard,
At roasting rot, a blood soaked sight...
On Halloween.

The bones, they blanched within the yard,
Again to have their evening marred,
By ghouls and fiends who rip and bite
With claws and fangs which drip delight
While gorging flesh, so slightly charred...
On Halloween.

(Everyday Is) Halloween

well I live with snakes and lizards
and other things that go bump in the night
cos to me everyday is halloween
I have given up hiding and started to fight
I have started to fight
well any time, any place, anywhere that I go
all the people seem to stop and stare
they say 'why are you dressed like it's halloween?
you look so absurd, you look so obscene!'
o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
it's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world
well I let their teeny minds think
that they're dealing with someone who is over the brink
and I dress this way just to keep them at bay
cos halloween is everyday
it's everyday
o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
it's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world
o, why can't I live a life for me?
why should i take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
I'm not the one that's so absurd
why hide it?
why fight it?
hurt feelings
best to stop feeling hurt
from denials, reprisals
it's the same it's the same in the whole wide world

Friend's Halloween Party

I attended my friend's halloween party last year.
It was one of my unforgetable memories ever.
Now the way I look at it as it strikes me hard
Is one of the wonderful pieces I truly enjoyed.

The unleashed vampires, deranged butchers,
A homicidal pinocchio, and zombie cannibals
Displayed their alluring talents to instill fears
In the hearts of the audience.

The halloween event was a unique experience.
Every costumed cast member was felt by the guests
Including myself and friends who were in attendance
As they jumped out from behind doors and curtains.

Although fake blood and plastic skeletons
Were obvious props in my eyes,
I was still scared to enter the mazes
By myself or with the others.

After the halloween scares,
Became an instant fan for the great performances
And works of art of the costumed actors,
Designers, technicians, and all staff members
Who were part in the attractions.

The Season of the Witch

Most of the country is hushed out there
As the Moon climbs over the hill,
The creatures out in the wild beware
And the air is breathless, still,
The deer is stood at the edge of the wood
Afraid to go in too soon,
With the animals skittish, out in the yard
A hare stares up at the Moon.

There's something amiss in the air tonight
Both furtive and dark, unclean,
Shadows are lurking by old stone walls
In wait for a sign to be seen,
The men all sit in a vacant trance
As the women go out by the ditch,
Wearing their smoke-black cloaks in the dance
For the Season of the Witch.

Then like the flutter of vampire bats
The witches take to their brooms,
Hang on to their tall black pointed hats
And fly low over the tombs,
They head in a swarm up Gallows Hill
Fulfilling some ancient rite,
While watchful eyes at the window-sill
Will get little sleep this night.

For Alison, Lindy, Carmen and Deb
Are watching their mothers leave,
Tucked into bed as their mothers' fled
The girls creep out to deceive,
Pulling the curtains aside they see
The flight go over the hill,
And hear the cackling sounds of glee,
Then the air is cold and still.

Then Lindy calls to the other three
Through the window out to the farm:
‘Let's climb up there, where we all can see
What they're doing from high in the barn! '
So they dress themselves in their winter cloaks
And they put on their witches hats
That the mothers had made for Halloween,
Had decorated with bats.

They climbed up over the stacked up hay
To the roof of the timbered barn,
And they peered from the moonlit bullock dray
To the trees by the hilltop farm,
But the witches danced in a grove of trees

White Halloween

Two days before the end of October, before Halloween,
A surprised snow storm surged like a mad queen,
Attacking the street lights, toying with the arms of the trees
To enrage the melancholic breeze
Of autumn, disrupting the mundane flows
Of rivers and the rhythmic pirouettes of the doves.

Oh! The sounds of the thunders
Mimicking the horrors
Of a dreadful season,
Which defied logic and reason!
Dracula and Mina were hanging out at the corner
Of the boulevard, where an elder
Recently lost the head
Of his masked doll.
A group of formerly dull
Teenagers decorated many windows,
And painted the feathers of the neighbors’ crows.
Hence all witnessed the dead
Roaming throughout the main mean street
Like escaped prisoners
Who fear neither ice nor sleet.

Two days before Halloween
It snowed like it was mid-winter.
That was a frigidly extemporaneous scene.
It was cold and spooky, and danger
Was at every curbside and corner.
That was awful and obscene.
The sidewalks were paved with black ice;
Mother Nature was neither seasonal, nor too nice.

The roaring sounds of the wind
Frightened the black cats, the white puppies,
And the striped black and white donkeys
That stumbled in the quick sand.
Great numbers of birds experienced an impromptu curfew,
And countless freeloaders were incarcerated
In the wintry coffer, inside the freezing pew.
Mother Nature was under attack
And her children lacked
Everything under the hiding sun,
Under the evil eye of a black moon.

The amputated trees looked like dead statues
After the apocalyptic passing of the ruthless wind.
A little birdie whispered that Mother Nature failed to pay her dues
Three years in a row. Humans will never be able to defend
Her, when she is in danger, when she is in trouble,
The passengers can only pray, remain calm and subtle.
