Separation [Despărţire]

Pass by small groups of willows, the poles are running fast
The white moon in broad daylight a look on us has cast,
The train over the meadows is flying like a dove,
With it in competition.... Farewell for good, my love!
Farewell, my Thought is sleeping and takes care of my soul...
Upon my hand I see now a ray that takes a stroll...
My neighbor stares in silence, but has a sleepy eye,
Upon a man's wide forehead is resting a small fly...
I feel behind, my darling, horizons changing place,
And that my wasted calling gets lost in time and space,
Your tears are falling gently upon my soul and brain
As on the withered wheat fields fall drops of chilly rain...
And in the sea of sunlight the nations smile at ease,
Behind, a man is running as swiftly as a breeze.
The ripe fields' yellow spinning allows us all to see
Blue chichories and poppies displaying a great glee...
If I could turn my being into a flower sweet
From this astounding running I'd throw it at your feet!...
And if for you, my darling, I gave up all unrest
And if I threw away now the letters in the chest,
A deep remorse would tear me like thorns pointed and dry
For in my heart keeps sounding your wailing and your sigh...
And if I tried to summon the past with all its graves
Would be vain, – for quickly the memory's weak waves
Would melt in me like dim stars that fade in fountains deep,
Like white and tiny snowflakes that in our hands we keep...
I turn and start to tremble... O, Nemesis, fierce threat,
Take back your bloody kerchief with big and hot tears wet.
You, who untamed, from shadows,... and lacking a loud voice,
Along the path of suffering have pushed me without choice,
You, who obscure the bright star that glimmers in my eye
And dissipate the rainbows thrown on the blue night's sky,
Now turn away your cold brow, lift up your heavy load,
Detached from my own being, I want to take the road
On which the flock for ages has walked with steady pace...
To reach the final comfort with smile upon my face.
