Zidane, Irwin and Brock

(Soccer Star, Wildlife Warrior and Rally Driver)

The World Cup Soccer final was taking place in France
When the captain of the French received a sideways glance
That may have had an insult added to the stare
Which he didn’t take to kindly, so let his temper flare
He trotted to the ‘Talian from whom the ribbing came
And gave him a full head-butt, so ending his last game
He took the red card quietly and then he left the field
And so the French footballers succumbed and had to yield

Another icon in the news and of the TV screen
Was cavorting in the water in another series scene
Making up a programme to bring to every home
The dangerous and deadly animals that roam
Upon the planet, in the sea, along that great big reef
That borders off the Aussie shore when then he came to grief
The deadly Ray that stabbed him directly in his heart
Took a man from all of us, not ready to depart

And then again another man, a symbol of the brave
Lost his life too early and was sent off to his grave
Epitomising ‘daring do’ and skidding on the rim
He crashed into a roadside tree and thus lost life from limb
So what is there to learn from these casualties that cast
Careers and lives so suddenly, so quickly and so fast
Perhaps the lesson we can learn is that even mighty fall
And that the rules if broken do have consequence for all
