This Love, 'tis a curse

The gypsy, I, rambles
from place to place
remembering many things,
among them, whatever you do
don't get attached to some
broad, don't
let the bloody meat hook
that is love snare you

But down in Tennessee
I got caught by
this red head country girl
it was innocent, at first,
first it was just fishing together
then it was swimming together
then we started swimming naked
after that 'twas hopeless

I decided in my head
this whole thing was a fling
I'd just see her, every
once in a while
But then one evening,
she told me,
she told me she'd loved me for a long time, and I wish
I didn't know now what I didn't know then

So I split the next morning,
for Texas
to escape it,
but I couldn't
And now
everyday's an endless stream
of whiskey and broken dreams
and even the moonlight is blinding
