The Eyes... Have It!
Eyes closed
we kissed
against as the sunset
only once
during this eternity
I dared to
open my eyes
to see if you closed your eyes
when you kissed
to see the flying scarlet
of your hair unfurled
against the sunset
like a banner of love
bleeding into the sky.
Later you told me you too
had sought this answer
squinting at the impossible
question
& were pleased to see
my eyes shut tight too
& that my eyelashes
trembled
& seemed impossibly beautifully
long.
