Ole' Rufus
A field of white petals with a yellow center
As far as the eye could see
Not a flower most prefer
Wild and free
Slinking and stalking
Old Rufus the cat
Listen closely and you can hear his squawking
As he spies an opossum rat
Twice his size
But ole’ Rufus is fearless
Green eyes spy and off he flies
A giant pounce and success
Rolled up in a ball
Mr. Opossum plays his role
Playing his death call
Confirming his triumph with a swipe of kitty’s claw
And ole’ Rufus is back on the prowl
Guarding his territory
Giving his master a good morning howl
Then pouncing off to begin another story
