My City

My city lay sleeping during the light but comes, alive in the dark
The light brings clairvoyance the dark unexpected feelings
My headphones can’t drown the noise out it only grows
Louder till dawn my city screams for its people
We scream back but in a different language
Walls speak of times of prosperity, and peace
Park benches holler about littler left underneath
Statues cry for people they have seen leave far to soon
Books are opened for childish vandalism but not to gain
My city screams as does yours
You just need to stop and listen
