March 7th
I remember the seas of inquiries
and slippery plastic halls
I remember silent messages
conveyed through thousands of air molecules
and flickering eyes
I remember a hands-off world
and candles snuffed at birth
I remember fake concern
I remember lab rat status
I remember picking up the pieces
Of a world that wasn’t mine
I remember washing away tears that I had no business seeing
A doormat at age thirteen
I remember pills and the thrills
Of a world that was finally mine
I remember making rules
And controlling lives
For lack of the same in mine
I remember suffocating
The lives of all around me
For lack of breath in my lungs
I remember running forever
Forcing my body to give up
Because at least then I knew
I remember feeling alive
