Life Was Easier
Daring myself I think back to when I was young.
When every hurt could be healed with hugs and ice cream.
When problems were hardly dilemmas.
When a broken heart was a skinned knee
And daddy would kiss it and make it better.
When depression was missing a stuffed animal
And mommy would cuddle me and make it better.
When sexual harassment was a boy pulling your hair
And brother would beat him up and make it better.
Skinned knees are easier to fix than broken hearts.
Losing a stuffed animal is better than losing a love.
A boy pulling your hair is easier to solve than rape.
Why can’t we go back to the time when life was better,
When I didn’t know how hard it was.
