Elder brother works in the fields
Younger brother is being nursed by mama
What place does a daughter like me have?
As a daughter, I am a worthless branch on the family tree
Only good for my husband's family when I marry out
And only if I bear a son
I know not to expect affection from my natal family
I know not to crave attention from mama or baba
I know to keep quiet when the men are in the room, and to stay out of the way
Yet my heart aches for love
