High and Pride

Her black face walks the crowded hall
The sea parts, only to have her fall
But she stands again, proud and tall
No one can break this wall
Racism don’t phase her
Whispers? Brushed off her shoulder
Those crude remarks just make her stronger
This girl’s a fighter
She carries herself with grace
Never lets herself feel out of place
Pride, shines across her face
Pride towards her race
Who are they to judge?
It’s their ancestors that hold the grudge
Against her skin like chocolate fudge
But this girl won’t budge
Her eyes stay dry
She never feels the need to cry
Although people do try
To break her down, but why?
She’s always been a girl so silent
It’s not like she’s violent
Nor is she defiant
Yet not overly compliant
She’s just searching for peace
Searching for an increase
In the level of ease
That everyone tries to seize
