Fireflies in the Park

She smiles down on me, the moon goddess,
pregnant with light,
and with love for those of us
who still hear her call.
She whispers 'Come...
sit near the tall grass
with the one you love
on the night of the longest day,
and I will show you my wonders.
I will tell the wind to kiss your cheeks,
and command the fireflies to perform for you.
A recital of sorts, each doing its own special dance,
moving in rhythm and harmony,
but also independent of one another,
as you also should.'

She smiles down on me,
my mother, my mentor, my guide.
And you smile up at me,
my love, my heart, my other half,
and all is right with the world.
