Blubbercraft

He took her to the beach with him
To see if his fat dog could swim
Short and fat and close to the ground
He needed to know if she would drown

She had no fear of water and sand
She didn’t run for high and dry land
She stepped right in up to her belly
And chased that creature made of jelly

From bow to stern and fore to aft
That dog was a classic blubbercraft
Her feet left the sand and she was afloat
Like a bobbing little doggy boat

No more does her owner have concern
Of losing his dog in a tidal churn
He’ll let her romp and chase and play
In the happiness of ocean spray
