An African Summer

the majestic sun
hangs determinedly
in purple-blue skies
it languors
lazily
too fat and stubborn
to bid farewell

a giggling child
skipping daintily
along a dusty trail
she smiles
sweetly
at wrinkled faces
on weathered porches

rambunctious boys
kicking a coke can
with naked feet
the unwanted
urchins
hungry to stomach
yet lusting life!

a million crickets
chirping incessantly
in mangled bushes
they anxiously
await
the soothing rains
from thunderous skies

this is africa!
my africa!
