A New Road

The alignment I first surveyed
from deep green valley
to the high dry land
turned out to be too steep
for an all-weather road.

A long wind to
slit the silly slope
was given up for extravagance.
Survey marked with
whitewashed boulders
bore my name but in time.

Then there were
alignments at new stations
till this avenue leading on to
the inside, well lit and safe
from the vagaries of weather.

I choose to miss it for the fear of losing my way.
