A Dog Sits Waiting

A dog sits waiting,
His plumes tail gently waving,
As he waits for you to return.
He thought that they were going to get out to play,

So he dashed off after the ball,
And returned,
To find you gone.

Too faithful to walk away,
The dog stays waiting,
Day after day.

At last the magnificent stray's head drifts down,
Gleaming eyes close,
His legs have grown weak, his throat had parched dry,
He falls with a last sigh,

I wish you could see,
How a faithfully waiting dog dies.
