The Unseen Remains
Beyond gateway an
entire unknown world.
With a thin piece of twig
or grappling-grass blade
prod penetrate beyond... unhidden
debris mouth of mine.
Engineering feat sunk deep
beneath earth’s microscopic surface.
Into living womb. Sending shockwaves
reeling to astound quake
fear amongst innocent. Community
preprogrammed workers.
Unprovoked fresh attack upon
insect ants industriously
continuing communal business.
Upward first skirmish line
race in defence to defend
against alien uncomprehendable.
Equipped complexity of glands
designed produce chemically
induced smells signalling
specific biological situations.
Discharge invest mandibular glands
into still air forming spheres.
Each reaches maximum diameter
approximately three inches
in fifteen seconds. Expanding
into interlocking links chains
scud signals then contracting dissipating
fading out altogether expiring.
Alarm signals overlapping
extend localized confined short
distance around disturbance.
Each ant scenting
an alarm releases
stimulates general broadcast.
Sped reinforcement
too pulse wave rapid
for antenna-to-antenna touch.
Rudimentary mind
resisting ferocious functions
of incomprehendable human.
