Rememberance Day

In the midst of silence we are one,
recalling our past, its misdeeds.
Young lives snatched cruelly,
not cleanly, not kindly.

The silence brings no peace,
it's a haunting bell, clanging.
It sings the same old song
and chimes each year
as we mourn the toll,
the deaths, the atrocities.

Then, as always, we drift off
into our tomorrows,
forgetting, suppressing __
smothering the silence
