Anguish

To Maher Abdallah's Soul:

In Jordan,
Where I went with your childhood friend
To visit your peaceful grave;
Mountains were spreading,
Around the macabre valley
Not very far from the tomb
Of the pure young men of the Cave.
In that HOLY PLACE,
You were slumbering
Soundly on rocks;
How could your thin body
Bear the pain? !
Are you really under the ashes
Or under my broken ribs
Buried in my heart,
Are you really in the eternal eclipse,
Or your light is becoming far
More overwhelming thence,
I felt like kneeling
On the dust of your last resting chamber,
And kiss the cactus over there,
I read verses from the Holy Qur’an,
An unseen hand touched my head to soothe
The anguish in my heart,
It could stop the running
Tears on my cheeks,
Finally we could meet
In a rocky grave yard
One inside the earth,
And one on the dry land
Longing for a final embrace.
