Never That Simple
he compels her to be
everything everyone else is
even me
living by comparison
only does harm
the only way out of his
expectations
is to bring others down
I understand my beloved friend
for years this has happened
so I've kept my distance
he walks on her feelings
walks on her heart
it gets worse
the closer we are
she is not as strong as they
think
I have seen him push her
to a break
it's like some constant control
not a cent over budget
don't dare laugh too loud
but everything truly good
God is in
if we're not serious all the time
it isn't a sin
she compels herself
perfection the goal
thank God that's not what saves us
or I'd belong to the darkness by now
but she knows this and yet
pushes anyway
not for our Father to love her more
but the man who looks right through
every night he enters her door.
