Missing What I Never Had
She didn't have the time, or the piece of mind
to know a good thing when she saw it coming down the line.
What else could I do? It was hers to choose -
I'd given my all and I got nothin' left to lose.
She's in a different place; didn't have the space
What has it come to, has it all gone to waste?
It's just the same old trend, no she won't even bend.
I guess I'm just one more 'never more than a friend'
If she only knew all the things I would do
I wouldn't be so down, no, I wouldn't be so blue.
And year after year it's my biggest fear
that all I profess is all she'll never hear.
If I persist, will it cease to exist -
this love, I know not of which it consists.
It's just the same old trend, no she won't even bend.
I guess I'm just one more 'never more than a friend'
Try as I might, I'm losing the fight.
What I wouldn't give for you to be here tonight
under the silver shroud of the moonlit clouds -
Trust me tonight, darling, two's not a crowd.
