So the African Union hosts Mugabe
Ian Khama sits down with Mugabe (*)
Thabo Mbeki sits down with Mugabe
John Kufuor sits down with Mugabe
All the great democrats
Polite & cordial diplomats
The Food and Agriculture Organisation
And other organs of the UN
Welcome Mugabe back
To the ruined halls of Rome
The European Union
And the delegates of its Member States
Sit down with Mugabe
To discuss trade deals in Lisbon
No country boycotts
No delegate walk-outs
No-one shouts in anger
Throws a can of paint
Or deigns to speak a truth to the dictator
Babies' legs are broken
Infants starve in villages
Where folks were brave enough to vote against him
Men and boys are slaughtered
Women raped and tortured
For the courage to uphold the opposition
And those who think they work in honour
For development and peace
Perform their rituals
At the same old tables
As if no beast sat in their midst.
