Our Lost Play

Lines are no longer
drawn on the sand
to make suweh.

Tinko tinko tinkoko tinko
of the eventide can no
longer be heard.

Young girls no longer
clap there hands with
watchful steps on the street,
to sing and play tenten.

The trees with comfortable
shade have lost there fame,
from the missing gathering of
the growing children.

Children of today are in romance
with technological things.
While folklore remain untold,
lessons still remain fold.

I sought for a popular song
amidst the growing children.
I sang to there hearing,
maybe they will know.

Kpele kpele kpele,
kpele join join.
Join join eh, ayetunde
tunde eh, ah ngozi.
Ngozi kpele kpele ji.

They laughed. This man is a
village man. They said.
I smiled, communed within
myself. Our play is lost.
