A Woven Tapestry

As I lie in silent repose
and contemplate all of those
who've become a part of whom I've been,
It amazes me how they all fit in.
And never once did I stop to think
that all of them became a link
in the chain encircling me.

Did they know their effect on me
or who I would become?
Or were they busy with their lives
and to mine just numb?
For when you're growing much too fast
you think their memories might not last,
but they do.

They appeared sometimes from out of the blue
and into my life they came, then flew
on to their own pursuits of the time
but made their impression to which I'm
appreciative in so many ways
for crossing my path on the yesterdays
of my life.

Most encounters were friendly and fine
adding the links to my chain that shine.
Some were not the kind that I sought
and yet I know they were the ones that taught
most of the lessons I needed to learn.
And so in my chain they did earn
the right to be in my life.

As I age I continue to add to my chain
and that is a privelege I hope will remain.
I believe the tapestry of my life's been woven
by all those that were certainly chosen
somehow, somewhere to be there for a while
as I moved about and walked each mile.
Now, I wonder if I was in theirs?
