From Your Past Somewhere

Sometimes when you are out
in a restaurant somewhere,
there sitting at a table
that is quite close to you is someone
and you think you recognise them
from your past somewhere.
They are older,
but something about them
suggests to you that you know them.
It is just their name escapes you.
You are not sure whether to approach them
in case they don’t remember you.
The more you hesitate,
the more frustrated you get.
Then they get up and are gone
and you say to yourself that you were wrong.
Never knowing if they might
have thought they recognised you.
