Quotes about fickle, page 14

Thomas Hardy

To An Orphan Child

A Whimsey

AH, child, thou art but half thy darling mother's;
Hers couldst thou wholly be,
My light in thee would outglow all in others;
She would relive to me.
But niggard Nature's trick of birth
Bars, lest she overjoy,
Renewal of the loved on earth
Save with alloy.

The Dame has no regard, alas, my maiden,
For love and loss like mine--
No sympathy with mind-sight memory-laden;
Only with fickle eyne.
To her mechanic artistry
My dreams are all unknown,
And why I wish that thou couldst be
But One's alone!

The pledge for men

I pledge myself to do my best
And my faith in God gives me rest
I see the need to be responsible
Committing to goals and never fickle
Called of God, the foundation for my family
Providing their needs is my ministry
I serve as a son, function as a father
Never blaming, ever becoming
And fulfilling the mandate thereafter
A believing man, a son of God, entrusted with divinity
To love, to serve and in harmony with CHRIST identity
I am in this world as an agent of change
Let thy Kingdom come and our minds be rearranged

To Our Brothers/Sisters out There...

we must always see the
greatness of our
brothers
we must always acknowledge
the efforts their time spent
their dreams
which even though unfulfilled at times
the struggle and the pitfall
must always be appreciated
we must always hope
the prayers all intact
within our hearts
the longings kept
burning like fire in the desert
like moon in winter
like comets and meteors
dashing forth
though sudden
in a very short spark of the moment
for it is who we are

Blinded Dreams

Dreams of magical transformations blind,
A leaf to the wind is the fickle mind,
Whispers of the evil one,
Work when you get there,
now have some fun,
Hidden the deadly viper lies,
The blind lulled away to demise,
Passivity’s false harvest of dreams,
Reaps no more than it could glean,
Work the day long, Reap what you sow,
By the sweat of your brow watch the harvest grow,
This is the law unmoving and sure,
Dirtying your knuckles will make your heart pure,
Come to Christ work and pray,
Delay not, today is your day.

Yesterday And Today

Oh yesterday! I lost your innocence.
I used to sing and hold my head up high.
Today I am a prisoner of greed.
My wealth is restlessness and misery.
O yesterday! I was a singing bird
happily soaring free among the fields.
Today I am a slave to fickle wealth.
Conforming to mans’ strange and narrow laws.
The fields! The songs! My freedom! -Where are they?
The yesterdays are lost and gold can’t find.
Today my fields are bare, my songs are dumb
enslaved within my palace walls-entombed!
Yesterday I was rich in happiness
Today I am poor in gold and alone.

Yet Do I Marvel

I doubt not God is good, well-meaning, kind
And did He stoop to quibble could tell why
The little buried mole continues blind,
Why flesh that mirrors Him must some day die,
Make plain the reason tortured Tantalus
Is baited by the fickle fruit, declare
If merely brute caprice dooms Sisyphus
To struggle up a never-ending stair.
Inscrutable His ways are, and immune
To catechism by a mind too strewn
With petty cares to slightly understand
What awful brain compels His awful hand.
Yet do I marvel at this curious thing:
To make a poet black, and bid him sing!

For Our God Reigns!

What hollow, fickle minds construe
Exposing mental barrenness,
Foolish words never hold true
Such weight in verbose emptiness.

Mocking His Word is the one Sin
That does so anger Him, our God-
Rebellion reeling from within
Makes a man's heart very, very sad.

Our God He reigns in majesty
Despite their scorn and mockery-
He lives in us, our Victory!
Our God He reigns for all eternity!

Kindly Interference

She lived alone because she chose,
she had no time for fickle men.
She had been hurt I must suppose
and was afraid to try again.

He lived alone but not by choice.
His secret dreams he would not voice
because he too had been betrayed
by a cold hearted selfish jade

They both had friends loyal and true.
Who secretly conspired to
attempt to make them change their mind.
Although the fates had been unkind.

And they succeeded very well
though none of them will ever tell
the happy couple what they did.
Some things are meant to remain hid.

Injuries...Self-Inflicted

Injuries…Self-Inflicted
Date: September 4,2011

And while I swim in rivers
Deep as my desire
The fickle flame that warms me
Cannot sustain my fire
A' clinging to the chalice
To wring out every sip
A poison to my spirit
But ambrosia to my lips
I'm haunted by the flavors
Drip, sweetened from the vine
I relish in the torment
And hunger for the wine
This burden, my obsession
Tears loose in bitter flames
To scald the tender longing
That welds me to this game

Old Men Just Go Fishing

When a young man's fancy, turns to desire,
An old man just goes fishing.
It takes too long to stoke that fire,
And what's the use in wishing.

So I pull out my rods, pull out my reels,
And go kick my old truck's tires.
Unlike with love, I won't miss meals,
And I won't put out no fires.

I'll just make sure my tackle box,
Is bursting at the seams,
No fancy cars I love old trucks,
No women in my dreams.

I'd rather be fishing any old day,
Not to say women are fickle.
And above all I just must say,
Fish won't slap when you tickle.
