Everybody’s Breath
In this fragile life,
I burn candles
In the incense room.
I utter prayers
In secret places
For gentle souls.
I return with my memories
To joyful times
And forget unpleasant thoughts.
There will be coffins
To gaze into
And one in which to lie,
But I cherish everybody’s breath
And know we’ve gained more in living
Than we’ll ever lose in death.
