I AM (I write)

I write of love, of hate, of anguish
But not of what is
..who is Anita Crystal Rose Khelawan
Anita named after the sultry sensation Anita Baker
Crystal... a nomenclature given by my father
An appellation used solely by my grandmother
Rose..so delicate the best of its kind
And like that flower it reflects my frame of mind
A rose does not bare just one color
The rose's semblance emulates a description of my character
I am a red rose - courageous & respectful
I am a black rose - mysterious &
I am a yellow and white rose - gracious & joyful
But i am 'Crystal Rose'
Khelawan a surname that's frozen in time
Khelawan I am lead to believe it's a fabricated name
It represents a new start relinquishing anger and pain..rejecting everything inhumane

Gaping at this picture the only time I've smiled was when I was a child
Times changed and this upward curving of the corners of the mouth is no longer my style
'Why so serious? ' I REALLY can't say
I guess there's a time to BE frivolous and for games which I don't wanna play

What can I say about me? .. Hmmm
I wish I was an only child
But it's just my brother and I
I always wanted a sister
But like i said before I rather be a loner
I revel in consummation
And one day I'll succumb to my dreams and aspiration
With each coming day I learn something new about myself
I'm a writer, a optimist and I'm an untimely poetess

I love me some Anita
And I'll love her forever..
She is a perfectionist
She has even told me that she'll stop at nothing for fear of becoming a mere statistic
The best compliment you could get is the one you to yourself
But isn't that self praise...and self praise is no praise
I'm a people pleaser..I give nothing but the best NEVER leaving your mouth with a bad taste

I am a mystery..I am reserve
I am not sure my words reflect skill and verve
Anyways most times I keep to myself
And if I do I lime with those of the opposite sex
Nice to learn a thing or two
I enjoy hearing things from a different point of view
Who is Anita C.R. Khelawan?
To some I'd like to be their world and to other just a figment of their imagination
Who is Anita C.R. Khelawan?

Malaysiana - Lost in Direction

sarawak bumis so subtly they carry the tag
with them i dont even feel deprivileged among them
definitely not as an affronts this tag for them

peninsula bumis everywhere i go the glaring
overstatement of a status that makes a society
unsettled, even lost in direction at times

sarawak bumis every other race they view
as opportunities to reap talking to them with
a sincerity and friendship no words can muster
you can even call them a family

peninsula bumis every other race some sort
of a threat, and when they talk, talk to them with
a kris dangled between their words

sarawak bumis they see a destiny clearly
beyond the horizon of friendship
the other, a clouded vision marred
by a metastasis of biases and insecurities
i pray the cancer will not spread

(the third stanza can also be written thus)

sarawak bumis every other race they view
as opportunities that only friendship can earn
they speak to them with a sincerity
no words can muster
you can even call them a family

Anita Sonic Love

I hear the sonic sound of brakes
As you whisper in my ear
I hold your head between my sweaty hands
And shout loud for all to hear
Anita say the word
I smell gasoline and I feel the heat
As we make love standing up
In the alley behind your street
Glow and crumble girl
I want you but I dont want your world
Anita say the word...
And I will walk with you almost anywhere
Back to als bar, baby hand in hand
All them local boys will know that Im your new man
Hey see anita, yeah shes my scary girl
All black blue eyes and blue blackened hair
I can taste the heaven waiting there
Shake and tremble, broken grace
I admit it, Im in love, but out of place
Anita say the word...
And I will sleep with you in that misfit way
With the tv noise so loud it soothes my fears
And the flickering light bathes your face
I wake from the drugs and the fear
In the night outside the world reverberates
Blue shadows in our loft, downtown l.a.
Outside the world reverberates
I need the strength I see in her
I need the love I feel inside
We talk about leaving behind the hell were in
We laugh about making it out alive
Yeah, see anita, yeah
Shes my pretty girl
Blind eyes to the world outside
No more so than the rest of the world...
No more so, than any other girl
It makes no sense to me...
Yeah anita, say the word

The Bursting of the Boom

The shipping-office clerks are ‘short,’ the manager is gruff—
‘They cannot make reductions,’ and ‘the fares are low enough.’
They ship us West with cattle, and we go like cattle too;
And fight like dogs three times a day for what we get to chew. . . .
We’ll have the pick of empty bunks and lots of stretching room,
And go for next to nothing at the Bursting of the Boom.
So wait till the Boom bursts!—we’ll all get a show:
Then when the Boom bursts is our time to go.
We’ll meet ’em coming back in shoals, with looks of deepest gloom,
But we’re the sort that battle through at the Bursting of the Boom.

The captain’s easy-going when Fremantle comes in sight;
He can’t say when you’ll get ashore—perhaps tomorrow night;
Your coins are few, the charges high; you must not linger here—
You’ll get your boxes from the hold when she’s ‘longside the pier.’
The launch will foul the gangway, and the trembling bulwarks loom
Above a fleet of harbour craft—at the Bursting of the Boom.

So wait till the Boom bursts!—we’ll all get a show;
He’ll ‘take you for a bob, sir,’ and where you want to go.
He’ll ‘take the big portmanteau, sir, if he might so presume’—
You needn’t hump your luggage at the Bursting of the Boom.

It’s loafers—Customs-loafers—and you pay and pay again;
They hinder you and cheat you from the gangway to the train;
The pubs and restaurants are full—they haven’t room for more;
They charge us each three shillings for a shakedown on the floor;
But, ‘Show this gentleman upstairs—the first front parlour room.
‘We’ll see about your luggage, sir’—at the Bursting of the Boom.

So wait till the Boom bursts!—we’ll all get a show;
And wait till the Boom bursts, and swear mighty low.
‘We mostly charge a pound a week. How do you like the room?’
And ‘Show this gentleman the bath’—at the Bursting of the Boom.

I go down to the timber-yard (I cannot face the rent)
To get some strips of oregon to frame my hessian tent;
To buy some scraps of lumber for a table or a shelf:
The boss comes up and says I might just look round for myself ;
The foreman grunts and turns away as silent as the tomb—
The boss himself will wait on me at the Bursting of the Boom.

So wait till the Boom bursts!—we’ll all get a load.
‘You had better take those scraps, sir, they’re only in the road.’
‘Now, where the hell’s the carter?’ you’ll hear the foreman fume;
And, ‘Take that timber round at once!’ at the Bursting of the Boom.

Each one-a-penny grocer, in his box of board and tin,
Will think it condescending to consent to take you in;
And not content with twice as much as what is just and right,

Sister Anita Travels With Me

When I was a teenager Anita was there,
she gave me support, she really cared.
I was the blacksheep that was to blame
for the family's unresolved shame.
Anita wanted to go with me
on my travels to friends of Dory & Mary.
I would go with Anita on a bus
we would go to different cities the two of us.
I did not want Anita to stay
I wanted her to go back home, she'ld be O.K.
But Anita stayed with me until the end
she would hang out with my city friends.
When we got home things didn't change
same family dynamics, I was to blame.
I wouldn't of missed those teenage days
they were fun and interesting anyway.

Marianne

(as interpreted by virgin records japan)
(accuracy is not guaranteed)
I take one look at you
It leaves me breathless
I see your dreams come true
Youre not so restless
Or light, or bright
Marianne
One day I might not care
What happens to me
Your lack of sympathy fails to disturb me
Ive got a life of my own
I remember the day
I thought we couldnt lose
Running round the garden in your mothers shoes
Playing silly sisters
And drinking green tea
On a cold autumn day
Someones car had broken down
The best of summer ends
When you give a celebration
We can leave but we cant really go on
It would spoil the celebration
Anita, all thats left is us facing a life
That goes on as before
One day I might not care
What happens to me
Your lack of sympathy
Fails to disturb me
Ive got a life of my own
Anita, all thats left is us facing a life
That goes on as before
Marianne
Anita, all thats left is us facing a life
That goes on as before
Marianne
Anita, all thats left is us facing a life
That goes on as before
Marianne
Anita, all thats left is us facing a life
At the end of the world
Marianne

Bursting Through

I'm counting stars
Lying under
Watching you through my walls
All the lights have gone out
I know you're listening now
You've been spinning around
Turning slowly
Orbiting round my house
It's a feeling I guess (Single Version: "It's a feeling I get")
I know you're listening now
Warm me today
Warm me today
Filter in my lonely room
Warm me today
Warm me today
Look outside the sun it's
Bursting through
Bursting through oh it's
Filling up this room
Now my fingers are cold
But I have touched you
You're all I need to know
Don't fade from me now
I know you're listening somehow
All you can give
All you can give
Twisting bright
It's more than light it's
All you can give
All you can give
Look outside the sun it's
Bursting through
Bursting through
Oh it's filling up this room
Warm me today
Warm me today
Look outside the sun it's
Bursting through
Bursting through
Oh it's filling up this room

Down the Memory lane

You're a learned soul that I admire at all,
In my school days I had a pen-friend a girl from Sarawak, Malaysia
Her name is Punithawathy an Indian origin if I am not mistaken and when I came to Sarawak once on a ship.
I was forty then, little aggressive
I want to see her but I have lost her address.
So no more, life's a dream day by day soulship reaches to the place called 'Anchorage' close to a certain Port,
And then you dropp your Anchor and lay up!
No voyages hereafter!

Honesty

Let's be brutal
Its stares you in the face
But no one seams to care

We say it
As often as we can
But no one seams to care

We open up
To say what we mean
But no one seams to care

So what's the point?
Of speaking up
If no one seams to care

But if you really mean it
And it comes straight from the heart
Then never give it up
Because at least you know you care

Heel Over Head

Don't you walk out that door
Don't even pet the dog on the floor
Just take your things in the yard
And throw your keys anywhere
After all the things I've done for you
Year after year after burnin' year
I'm sorry for wastin all your time
I'm sorry for loosin' all my life
And I think that I'm lost and hard to find
But I feel like i'm living a dumbless life
[Chorus]
Heel over head
Jet lag sky is painted white again
I'm heel over head
Leave my eyes in the clouds agian
You don't see me at all
You don't see me at all.
You don't see me at all.
You don't see me
Don't you walk away from me
I'm givin' up everything
But i think that I'm rippin' a part at the seams
And I'm findin it hard, hard to belive
And i feel like I'm livin' inside a dream
And no one believes
And no one sees
I'm sorry for wastin all your time
And I'm sorry for loosin' on the line
[Chorus]
Or hear me
Or touch me
Or bring me
Or think that I'm rippin' a part at the seams
You don't save me at all
You don't save me at all
You dont fell me or touch me
I'm sorry, and I'm sorry for wastin'
I'm sorry, and I'm sorry for wastin'
I'm sorry, and I'm sorry you don't See me
Hear me
Touch me
Bring me
Think that I'm rippin' a part at the seams
You don't see me
Hear me
Touch me
Bring me
Think that I'm rippin' a part at the seams

Broken Hearts

Two hearts joined
In the fate of love
Two hearts break
In the wings of a dove

One heart still loves
Still hopes, Still dreams
One heart hurts
One heart Screams

The heart that loves
Still hopes, Still dreams
That's my heart
Torn at the seams

The heart that hurts
The one that screams
That's his heart
Torn at the seams

Two hearts lost
A beloved lil dream
The hurt the pain
A never ending dream

The heart that's his
Threw it away
The love, The affection
An eventful day

Two hearts joined
But ripped and torn
Just as violent
As a winter storm

One heart still loves
Still hopes, Still dreams
To one day fix his
and sew up the seams

But one heart still hurts
Still cries, Still screams
That's his heart
With no more dreams

A heart confused
A heart in pain
That's his heart
A heart with no gain

The Columbiad: Book I

The Argument

Natives of America appear in vision. Their manners and characters. Columbus demands the cause of the dissimilarity of men in different countries, Hesper replies, That the human body is composed of a due proportion of the elements suited to the place of its first formation; that these elements, differently proportioned, produce all the changes of health, sickness, growth and decay; and may likewise produce any other changes which occasion the diversity of men; that these elemental proportions are varied, not more by climate than temperature and other local circumstances; that the mind is likewise in a state of change, and will take its physical character from the body and from external objects: examples. Inquiry concerning the first peopling of America. View of Mexico. Its destruction by Cortez. View of Cusco and Quito, cities of Peru. Tradition of Capac and Oella, founders of the Peruvian empire. Columbus inquires into their real history. Hesper gives an account of their origin, and relates the stratagems they used in establishing that empire.

I sing the Mariner who first unfurl'd
An eastern banner o'er the western world,
And taught mankind where future empires lay
In these fair confines of descending day;
Who sway'd a moment, with vicarious power,
Iberia's sceptre on the new found shore,
Then saw the paths his virtuous steps had trod
Pursued by avarice and defiled with blood,
The tribes he foster'd with paternal toil
Snatch'd from his hand, and slaughter'd for their spoil.

Slaves, kings, adventurers, envious of his name,
Enjoy'd his labours and purloin'd his fame,
And gave the Viceroy, from his high seat hurl'd.
Chains for a crown, a prison for a world
Long overwhelm'd in woes, and sickening there,
He met the slow still march of black despair,
Sought the last refuge from his hopeless doom,
And wish'd from thankless men a peaceful tomb:
Till vision'd ages, opening on his eyes,
Cheer'd his sad soul, and bade new nations rise;
He saw the Atlantic heaven with light o'ercast,
And Freedom crown his glorious work at last.

Almighty Freedom! give my venturous song
The force, the charm that to thy voice belong;
Tis thine to shape my course, to light my way,
To nerve my country with the patriot lay,
To teach all men where all their interest lies,
How rulers may be just and nations wise:
Strong in thy strength I bend no suppliant knee,
Invoke no miracle, no Muse but thee.

Night held on old Castile her silent reign,
Her half orb'd moon declining to the main;
O'er Valladolid's regal turrets hazed
The drizzly fogs from dull Pisuerga raised;
Whose hovering sheets, along the welkin driven,
Thinn'd the pale stars, and shut the eye from heaven.
Cold-hearted Ferdinand his pillow prest,
Nor dream'd of those his mandates robb'd of rest,
Of him who gemm'd his crown, who stretch'd his reign
To realms that weigh'd the tenfold poise of Spain;
Who now beneath his tower indungeon'd lies,
Sweats the chill sod and breathes inclement skies.

Vision Of Columbus - Book 5

Columbus hail'd them with a father's smile,
Fruits of his cares and children of his toil;
With tears of joy, while still his eyes descried
Their course adventurous o'er the distant tide.
Thus, when o'er deluged earth her Seraph stood,
The tost ark bounding on the shoreless flood,
The sacred treasure claim'd his guardian view,
While climes unnoticed in the wave withdrew.
He saw the squadrons reach the rising strand,
Leap from the wave and share the joyous land;
Receding forests yield the heroes room,
And opening wilds with fields and gardens bloom.
Fill'd with the glance extatic, all his soul
Now seems unbounded with the scene to roll,
And now, impatient, with retorted eye,
Perceives his station in another sky.
Waft me, O winged Angel, waft me o'er,
With those blest heroes, to the happy shore;
There let me live and die–but all appears
A fleeting vision; these are future years.
Yet grant in nearer view the climes may spread,
And my glad steps may seem their walks to tread;
While eastern coasts and kingdoms, wrapp'd in night,
Arise no more to intercept the sight.
The hero spoke; the Angel's powerful hand
Moves brightening o'er the visionary land;
The height, that bore them, still sublimer grew,
And earth's whole circuit settled from their view:
A dusky Deep, serene as breathless even,
Seem'd vaulting downward, like another heaven;
The sun, rejoicing on his western way,
Stamp'd his fair image in the inverted day:
Sudden, the northern shores again drew nigh,
And life and action fill'd the hero's eye.
Where the dread Laurence breaks his passage wide,
Where Missisippi's milder currents glide,
Where midland realms their swelling mountainsheave,
And slope their champaigns to the distant wave,
On the green banks, and o'er the extended plain,
Rise into sight the happiest walks of man.
The placid ports, that break the billowing gales,
Rear their tall masts and stretch their whitening sails;
The harvests wave, the groves with fruitage bend,
And bulwarks heave, and spiry domes ascend;
Fair works of peace in growing splendor rise,
And grateful earth repays the bounteous skies.
Till war invades; when opening vales disclose,
In moving crouds, the savage tribes of foes;
High tufted quills their painted foreheads press,
Dark spoils of beasts their shaggy shoulders dress,

Flag Day

Too many florence nightingales
Not enough robin hoods
Too many halos not enough heroes
Coming up with the goods
So you though youd like to change the world
Decided to stage a jumble sale
For the poor, for the poor
Its a waste of time if you know what they mean
Try shaking a box in front of the queen
cause her purse is fat and bursting at the seams
Its a waste of time if you know what they mean
Too many hands in too many pockets
Not enough hands on hearts
Too many ready to call it a day
Before the day starts
So you thought youd like to see them healed
Got blue peter to stage an appeal
For the poor, for the poor
Its a waste of time if you know what they mean
Try shaking a box in front of the queen
cause her purse is fat and bursting at the seams
Its a waste of time if you know what they mean
Flag day, flag day, flag day
