The Land called Spadgers - waiting fer 'is jills.
The night's come chilly, an' a drizzlin' rain
Falls steady where a near-by street lamp spills
A gashly yeller light on stones all wet,

I've crawled; I've eaten dirt; I've lied a treat;
I've dodged the cops an' led a double life;
I've readied up wild tales to tell me wife,

SO YER trav’lin’ for yer pleasure while yer writin’ for the press?
Anyer huntin’ arter “copy”?—well, I’ve heer’d othat. I guess

Well, the joker seemed in earnest, so the boss began ter cool,

The conq'rin' 'ero! Me? Yes, I don't think.
This mornin' when I catch the train fer 'ome,
It's far more like a walloped pup I slink
