Your favorite food
What you like to do
Your favorite color
or any other
The thing on your mind
That you like to share
Cause I can stay here
And listen to every word
Because I'm interested
Can I be an instrument
For changing your life
Is that all right?
Because I'm interested
I'd rather be with you instead
Than anyone else
Cause I'm interested in your middle name
Now don't be ashamed, Naw
It's between me and you
Everything you do
Let your guard down
Because there's a new girl in town
gonna turn it around
I hope that you are down
Because I'm interested
Can I be your instrument
In changing your life
Is that allright?
Because I'm interested
I'd rather be with you instead
of anyone else
I'm wide open
No more secrets
No lie
Don't wanna live like a fool
But I will
For you
So I'll beg
I'll scream
I'll call
I'll write
If that's what it takes for you to be in my life
Because I'm interested
And I'll be an instrument
In changing your life
Is that all right?
Because I'm interested
And I rather be with you instead
Of anyone else
Oh No
Because I'm interested

The Loveable Characters

I long for the streets but the Lord knoweth best,
For there I am never a saint;
There are lovable characters out in the West,
With humour heroic and quaint;
And, be it Up Country, or be it Out Back,
When I shall have gone to my Home,
I trust to be buried 'twixt River and Track
Where my lovable characters roam.

There are lovable characters drag through the scrub,
Where the Optimist ever prevails;
There are lovable characters hang round the pub,
There are lovable jokers at sales
Where the auctioneer's one of the lovable wags
(Maybe from his "order" estranged),
And the beer is on tap, and the pigs in the bags
Of the purchasing cockies are changed.

There were lovable characters out in the West,
Of fifty hot summers, or more,
Who could not be proved, when it came to the test,
Too old to be sent to the war;
They were all forty-five and were orphans, they said,
With no one to keep them, or keep;
And mostly in France, with the world's bravest dead,
Those lovable characters sleep.

I long for the streets, but the Lord knoweth best,
For there I am never a saint;
There are lovable characters out in the West,
With humour heroic and quaint;
And, be it Up Country, or be it Out Back,
When I shall have gone to my Home,
I trust to be buried 'twixt River and Track
Where my lovable characters roam.

This Girl

Take me as I am
Though I'm good at pretending
I tire easily
And hurry to the ending
There's more than what you see
But not the way you see it
I hope you follow me
And you get the meaning
Here is where I stand
Here is who I am
And I'm not interested in
Fitting in
I only want to be
To be this girl
I'm not interested in
Giving in I only want to be
This girl
Take me as you will
Under no illusions
I offer myself whole
I give into you and I
Offer you the sky
The sun and moon and seas
But you need to know that I
Not more or less than me
Here is where I stand
Here is who I am
And I'm not interested in
Fitting in I only want to be
To be this girl
I'm not interested in
Giving in
I only want to be
This girl
I'm not interested in
Fitting in
I only want to be
To be this girl
I'm not interested in
Giving in
I only want to be
This girl

A Mirror Image

How many times when reading a book,
do we identify with the characters within?
Their traits they have we share,
their loves and heartaches
their lives go through somehow mirror our own.
It’s as if the author was writing about us.
As though he has put us under a microscope
and then writing down everything, he saw.
However, we know this isn’t so
because he or she has written
segments of their own life
and by accident they happen to mirror ours.
Every writer will tell you
that they have their characters under control.
Having written numerous novels,
I know the characters take on a life of their own
and do what they want to do.
We become their instrument as they guide us on our way.
We end up writing what they want us to say.
To every writer his characters are real,
they live, breathe and feel.
The more you write about them,
the more alive they become.
So the next time you pick up a book
and the characters seem real,
they probably are to the author
who looks after them.

The fate of attention

I grew interested.
I became interested.
I stayed interested.
I was no more interested.
I was no longer interested.
I grow uninterested.
It is so for every person
And for every thing
We focus our attention on.

Walt Disney got away with portraying me in the light that they were portraying me in. I have always been a fighter, so... But I have no regrets, man. It's just like God brought me through the drugs, I know he'll bring me through this.

It Shouldn't Amaze, Phase Or Daze One Bit

It shouldn't amaze, phase or daze one bit,
That those who create evil images...
Are the very ones themselves afraid.
And doing their best to upset others,
By portraying themselves...
As those self righteous and the ones to trust.

It shouldn't amaze, phase or daze one bit,
That those who create evil images...
Are the very ones themselves afraid.
They hold onto beliefs,
Embellished by deceit.
And exposed they are observed...
To be the causes of denying truth to breathe.

It shouldn't amaze, phase or daze one bit,
That those who create evil images...
Are the very ones themselves afraid.
And doing their best to upset others,
By portraying themselves...
As those self righteous and the ones to trust.
And this trust has been crushed into dust!

It shouldn't amaze, phase or daze one bit,
But it does to those...
Who chose to ignore all the signs of it.

Character is something you forge for yourself; temperament is something you are born with and can only slightly modify. Some people have easy temperaments and weak characters; others have difficult temperaments and strong characters. We are all prone to confuse the two in assessing people we associate with. Those with easy temperaments and weak characters are more likable than admirable; those with difficult temperaments and strong characters are more admirable than likable. Of course, the optimum for a person is to possess both an easy temperament and a strong character, but this is a rare combination, and few of us are that lucky.

The Cinematic

It's a strange task to put something down in ink
The things worth saying
Are the things that can't be said- I think
The songs that mean something to sing
Are beyond words above language
The kind you can't directly engage
All this to say what I now say
Is worth saying, worth it to me

When I write a movie script
There's something about me
That becomes
Invested
Inserted
Infused
Into my characters, it's a feeling that is foreign
For I feel what they feel and not what I fell
And yet their person flows from who I am, closer than kin
Simultaneously their emotions are born of mine
As their emotions are born in me.
It's not quite as if I see what they see
And yet they are me, more than just a sign
Of something I feel, something I thought
They're a piece of myself that I brought
To fictional life with words that don't
Describe all that they are, nor all I am
Sometimes it feels like their identity hits me, unplanned
But then there's the sense it was always there
Was always here
Was always me-

Some characters scare me
Are they all pieces of myself?
Are they all mine? If they're mine are they me?
Do I have that darkness? Their darkness?
That light? Their light?
That hope? Their hope?
That despair? Their despair?
That love? Their love?
That hate? Their hate?
Is everyone so attached to their characters?
I feel their pain it makes me cry
I cry real tears in fake dreams
Fake stories with fake screams
If it's all so fake, then why?
So close, so near, and when they die...
Do I lose them? Do they live forever
Without ever living or do they die and
Pass away? Am I allowed to wonder such things, allowed to ponder?
One thing I know

You may not be interested in sex
But sex is interested in you.
You may not be interested in men.
But men are interested in you.
Women, can you escape us; think.

Outside World

She has six swans singing in her sauna
So she cant hear whats going on
No she cant hear whats going on
In the outside world
In the outside world
In the outside
Bad black and white men
Standing in their pigpen
Selling guns to simpletons
To shoot em in the abdomen
And shes not interested in that
And shes not interested in that
She has six swans singing in her sauna
Outside - world - outside
She has eleven lions laughing at her lakeside
So she cant hear whats going on
No she cant hear whats going on
In the outside world
In the outside world
In the outside
Bad brown and yellow men
Splitting on their fellow men
Drape her in a newspaper
And stab her with a poison pen
Shes not interested in that
Shes not interested in that
She has eleven lions laughing at her lakeside
Outside - world - outside
You can keep your animals
All the noise and the din
Just make a little space for me
Im coming in

I and Imp In me!

I am not alone, an Imp lives in me,
The Imp is Impassioned Idiot,
Sometime Idle,
Sometimes runs behind Ideals,
Most of them are mere Illusions,
Idolum it sketches, idols it carves!

Ignonimous that Imp is,
Over Imaginative and impulsive,
Intuitions confused with illusions,
Innocent and ignorant,
Innocent and ignorant about its own Ignorances,
Impertinent and impetuous,
Impinge on Implex Theories, doctrines and ideologies!

Interested always its own idyll,
Roaming Isolated in illation and imagination,
Falling to own Immature imaginations,
Sometime Implore and sometimes explore,
Impractical and Imprecate its fate!
Interested in amusements,
Interested in pleasures,
Interested in expression to impress,
than impressive expressions!

That implacable, impious impish, imposter finally feel tired,
Looks at that Greater I in me,
And Impetrate to enter into
Impervious, imperturbable,
Immovable, impartial, impeccable, Inimitable And illimitable 'I'!

I have too much respect for the characters I play to make them anything but as real as they can possibly be. I have a great deal of respect for all of them, otherwise I wouldn't do them. And I don't want to screw them by not portraying them honestly.

Essay on Psychiatrists

I. Invocation

It‘s crazy to think one could describe them—
Calling on reason, fantasy, memory, eves and ears—
As though they were all alike any more

Than sweeps, opticians, poets or masseurs.
Moreover, they are for more than one reason
Difficult to speak of seriously and freely,

And I have never (even this is difficult to say
Plainly, without foolishness or irony)
Consulted one for professional help, though it happens

Many or most of my friends have—and that,
Perhaps, is why it seems urgent to try to speak
Sensibly about them, about the psychiatrists.

II. Some Terms

“Shrink” is a misnomer. The religious
Analogy is all wrong, too, and the old,
Half-forgotten jokes about Viennese accents

And beards hardly apply to the good-looking woman
In boots and a knit dress, or the man
Seen buying the Sunday Times in mutton-chop

Whiskers and expensive running shoes.
In a way I suspect that even the terms “doctor”
And “therapist” are misnomers; the patient

Is not necessarily “sick.” And one assumes
That no small part of the psychiatrist’s
Role is just that: to point out misnomers.

III. Proposition

These are the first citizens of contingency.
Far from the doctrinaire past of the old ones,
They think in their prudent meditations

Not about ecstasy (the soul leaving the body)
Nor enthusiasm (the god entering one’s person)
Nor even about sanity (which means

Health, an impossible perfection)
But ponder instead relative truth and the warm

My Dreamworld

The magic wand of fairy God mother
turns the pumkin into a cart
Cinderella’s ragged dress transformed to silky gown
makes her look pretty and smart.
Potency of the magic remains upto zero hour
Cinderella comes back home at the expense of a glass slipper.

Curtain rolls down with the emergence of
Seven dwarfs and Snowwhite
Tears flood the coffin of the corpse
with Snowwhite’s sudden demise.
All’s well that ends well
with arrival of the prince
Snowwhite awakes and unites with him
leading to a happy ending.

Rewinding of the spool flashes
Alice through the looking glass
In sequence pass through
King and Queen of cards
The cat heralds, occupies the scene
and soars to the sky
Soon follow with hullabaloo
Enid Blyton’s famous five.

Garbed in red, little Red Riding Hood
makes a narrow escape
Eluding the wolf ready to devour
she comes back home safe.

The final scene turns up
with the witchcraft of Harry Potter
My own broomstick slips
to cause me to fall from a skyscraper.

Frigid to death I lose consciousness
Sudden jerks make me awake
I feel my hubby’s violent shake
He says, ”Swati (my name) , it’s an office day
what happened, not getting up-
aren’t you fine today? ”

(The poem is based on the fairy tales Cinderella, Snowwhite and Little Red Riding Hood and the children's fictions/stories portraying the characters Alice of Alice in Wonderland, The famous five and Harry Potter, the magic wonder of today.I express my deep gratitude to the authors Lewis Carroll, Enid Blyton and J.K.Rowling respectively for the said works, whose creations always tempt me to reduce my mental age and have inspired me to write this poem.)

CRYSTAL GLOW

Madhur Veena Comment: Who is she? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ....You write good!

Margaret Alice Comment: Beautiful, it stikes as heartfelt words and touches the heart, beautiful sentiments, sorry, I repeat myself, but I am delighted. Your poem is like the trinkets I collect to adorn my personal space, pure joy to read, wonderful! Only a beautiful mind can harbour such sentiments, you have a beautiful mind. I am glad you have found someone that inspires you to such heights and that you share it with us, you make the world a mroe wonderful place.

Margaret Alice Comment: Within the context set by the previous poem, “Cosmic Probe”, the description of a lover’s adoration for his beloved becomes a universal ode sung to the abstract values of love, joy and hope personified by light, colours, fragrance and beauty, qualities the poet assigns to his beloved, thus elevating her to the status of an uplifting force because she brings all these qualities to his attention. The poet recognises that these personified values brings him fulfilment and chose the image of a love relationship to illustrate how this comes about; thus a love poem becomes the vehicle to convey spiritual epiphany.

FRAGRANT JASMINE

Margaret Alice Comment: Your words seem to be directed to a divine entity, you seem to be addressing your adoration to a divinity, and it is wonderful to read of such sublime sentiments kindled in a human soul. Mankind is always lifted up by their vision and awareness of divinity, thank you for such pure, clear diction and sharing your awareness of the sublime with us, you have uplifted me so much by this vision you have created!

Margaret Alice Comment: The poet’s words seem to be directed to a divine entity, express adoration to a divinity who is the personification of wonderful qualities which awakens a sense of the sublime in the human soul. An uplifting vision and awareness of uplifting qualities of innocence represented by a beautiful person.

I WENT THERE TO BID HER ADIEU

Kente Lucy Comment: wow great writing, what a way to bid farewell

Margaret Alice Comment: Sensory experience is elevated by its symbolical meaning, your description of the scene shows two souls becoming one and your awareness of the importance of tempory experience as a symbol of the eternal duration of love and companionship - were temporary experience only valid for one moment in time, it would be a sad world, but once it is seen as a symbol of eternal things, it becomes enchanting.

I’M INCOMPLETE WITHOUT YOU

Margaret Alice Comment: You elevate the humnan experience of longing for love to a striving for sublimity in uniting with a beloved person, and this poem is stirring, your style of writing is effective, everything flows together perfectly.

Margaret Alice Comment:

'To a resplendent glow of celestial flow
And two split halves unite never to part.'

Reading your fluent poems is a delight, I have to tear myself away and return to the life of a drudge, but what a treasure trove of jewels you made for the weary soul who needs to contemplate higher ideals from time to time!

IN CELESTIAL WINGS

Margaret Alice Comment: When you describe how you are strengthened by your loved one, it is clear that your inner flame is so strong that you need not fear growing old, your spirit seems to become stronger, you manage to convey this impression by your striking poetry. It is a privilege to read your work.

Obed Dela Cruz Comment: wow.... i remembered will shakespeare.... nice poem!

Margaret Alice Comment: The poet has transcended the barriers of time and space by becoming an image of his beloved and being able to find peace in the joy he confers to his beloved.

'You transcend my limits, transcend my soul, I forget my distress in your thoughts And discover my peace in your joy, For, I’m mere image of you, my beloved.'

Margaret Alice Comment: You are my peace and solace, I know, I am, yours too; A mere flash of your thoughts Enlivens my tired soul And fills me with light, peace and solace, A giant in new world, I become, I rise to divine heights in celestial wings. How I desire to reciprocate To fill you with light and inner strength raise you to divine heights; I must cross over nd hold you in arms, light up your soul, Fill you with strength from my inner core, Wipe away your tears burst out in pure joy How I yearn to instill hope and confidence in you we never part And we shall wait, till time comes right. the flame in my soul always seeks you, you transcend my limits, transcend my soul, I forget my distress in your thoughts And discover my peace in your joy, For, I’m mere image of you, my beloved.
