Original Monkees' songs were produced very thinly, on purpose.

Theme From The Monkees
By tommy boyce and bobby hart
Here we come, walkin
Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Evry one we meet.
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.
We go wherever we want to,
Do what we like to do
We dont have time to get restless,
Theres always something new.
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.
Were just tryin to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
Were the young gneration,
And weve got something to say.
Any time, or anywhere,
Just look over your shoulder
Guess wholl be standing there
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.
(break)
Hey, hey, were the monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But were too busy singing
To put anybody down.
Were just tryin to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
Were the young gneration,
And weve got something to say.
Hey, hey, were the monkees
Hey, hey, were the monkees
[repeat and fade]
Extra verse:
Hey, hey, were the monkees,
You never know where well be found.
So youd better get ready,
We may be comin to your town.

Il Tema Dei Monkees
Ecco qua
Passiamo noi
E la gente ci guarda
Ed ammir con voi
Ci chiamano I monkees,
E siamo meno matti di chi
Si crede piu' intelligente
Di noi che la pensiamo cosi.
Dovunque parliamo
Non e' giusto mai
Ce' sempre qualcuno che
Ne sa piu' di noi.
Ci chiamano I monkees
E siamo meno matti di chi
Si crede piu' intelligente
Di noi che la pensiamo cosi'
Ci chiamano I monkees...
Translation!
Here we are
We are passing by
And people are looking at us
And they admire us with you.
They call us the monkees
And we are less crazy than those
Who think are more intelligent
Than us who think this way.
Everywhere we talk
Its never right
Theres always someone
Who knows more than us.
They call us the monkees
And we are less crazy than those
Who think are more intelligent
Than us who think this way.
Ci chiamano I monkees....

The Piper And The Prey
this is how friday ended
a little bit hard to believe
my perception slightly bending
as the piper came on the scene
it was something so hypnotic
the music even changed
the crowd got up and got chaotic
and they paid so they could play
the pied piper played
the pied piper pushed
songs to make them crave
songs that seemed so good
songs that made it easier
songs down in their blood
songs that take, steal the love
until the song has had enough
at first, the dance was hesitant
not long before everyone knew it
the music spun them 'round and 'round
then it pulled the dancers into it
i danced my dance at my own pace
he laughed, knowing i would change
it took all i had in so many ways
saw others dance until they fell on their face
and still the piper played...
the pied piper played
the pied piper pushed
songs to make them crave
songs that seemed so good
songs that made it easier
songs down in their blood
songs that take, steal the love
until the song has had enough
bodies on the floor
unconscious and awake
the piper gave them more;
they took all that he gave
he played a new illusion
while the world began to sway
the dance became delusion
our hearts became the prey
and i danced as he played
and i danced as he pushed
songs that made me crave

The Original Wrapper
I was sittin home on the west end
Watchin cable tv with a female friend
We were watchin the news, the worlds in a mess
The poor and the hungry, a world in distress
Herpes, aids, the middle east at full throttle
Better check that sausage, before you put it in the waffle
And while youre at it, check whats in the batter
Make sure that candys in the original wrapper
Hey, pitcher, better check that batter
Make sure that candys in the original wrapper
Reagan says abortions murder
While hes looking at cardinal oconnor
Look at jerry falwell louis farrakhan
Both talk religion and the brotherhood of man
They both sound like they belong in teheran
Watch out, theyre goin full throttle
Better check that sausage, before you stick it in the waffle
And while youre at it better check, whats in the batter
Make sure that candys in the original wrapper
Hey, pitcher, better check that batter
Make sure that candys in the original wrapper
White against white, black against jew
It seems like its 1942
The baby sits in front of mtv
Watching violent fantasies
While dad guzzles beer with his favorite sport
Only to find his heroes are all coked up
Classic, original, the same old story
The politics of hate in a new surrounding
Hate if its good and hate if its bad
And if this all dont make you mad
Ill keep yours and Ill keep mine
Nothing sacred and nothing divine
Father, bless me, were at full throttle
Better check that sausage, before you put it in the waffle
And while youre at it better check that batter
Make sure the candys in the original wrapper
Hey, pitcher, better check that batter
Make sure that candys in the original wrapper, hey, hey
I was born in the united states
And I grew up hard but I grew up straight
I saw a lack of morals and a lack of concern
A feeling that theres nowhere to turn
Yippies, hippies and upwardly mobile yuppies
Dont treat me like Im some dumb lackey
cause the murderer lives while the victims die
Id much rather see it an eye for an eye
A heart for a heart, a brain for a brain
And if this all makes you feel a little insane
Kick up your heels, turn the music up loud

From A Distance
From a distance, the world looks blue and green,
And the snow capped mountains so white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream,
And the eagle takes to flight.
From a distance, there is harmony
And it echoes through the land.
Its the voice of hope, its the voice of peace,
Its the voice of every man.
From a distance, we all have enough,
And no-one is in need.
There are no guns, no bombs and no disease
No hungry mouths to feed.
For a moment we must be instruments,
Martching in a common band,
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace,
Theyre is the songs of every one.
God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us, from a distance.
From a distance, you look like my friend,
Even though we are at war.
From a distance, I cant comprehend,
What all this war is for.
What we need is love and harmony,
Let it echo through the land.
Its the hope of hopes, its the love of loves,
Its the heart of everyone.
Its the hope of hopes, its the love of loves,
Its the song of everyone.
Sing out, songs of hope,
Sing out, songs of freedom,
Sing out, songs of love,
Sing out, songs of peace,
Sing out, songs of justice,
Sing out, songs of harmony,
Sing out, songs of love,
Sing out, everyone,
Sing out, songs of hope,
Sing out, songs of freedom,
Sing out, songs of love,
Sing out, songs of peace,
Sing out, songs of justice,
Sing out, songs in harmony,
Sing out, sing about love,
Sing out, everyone.
Sing out.

The Monkees Present Radio Promo
by Unknown
The management at Colgems Records has asked me to explain something,
which is no big surprise, because people are always asking their kids to
explain everything.
(Listen To The Band excerpt)
They want to bring us out all the time, to get us to talk, to tell them
what we think, so they can tell us why we're wrong. But for us, our
music says it all.
Like the Monkees and their new album: The Monkees Present.
(Good Clean Fun excerpt)
Their music is like we are. It's hard to say why you like it, except the
music talks to you instead of expecting you to talk to it. Get The
Monkees
Present on Colgems, records and Stereo-8 cartridge tape. It's music that
talks to you.

Chaos, Order, Chaos, Beauty And Ugliness...
beauty must a purpose
have, for instance beauty that
gives peace and
harmony to the world,
presumably this world is a world of chaos,
and chaos is wanton
and understood to be messy and
undesirable, makes the mind
to lack the necessary focus
but what is focus for? what is thinking for?
again, you return to purpose
focus must have a purpose
and thinking must have another purpose
but what is the purpose of purpose?
seems that purpose is beauty
and that purpose without beauty is not desirable,
and so on and so forth,
people get so confused, they want order as though order itself is
beauty
as though it is one purpose that we need,
the universe must have an order
a system, every planet orbiting around the sun must have
a purpose
as though they are human beings like us
as though they are us
look at this poem, read it so well,
it has no purpose but to make you think
make you doubt
that perhaps beauty to be beauty must be wanton
and chaotic, which by itself is a reality
and reality is always
beautiful,
it has always a purpose and this is what you think it to be
right now, but is this really so?

Original Sin
Ive been looking for an original sin.
One with a twist and a bit of a spin.
Ive done all of the old ones.
Till theyve all been done in.
Now Im just looking -
Then Im gone with the wind -
Endlessly searching for an original sin.
You can dance forever.
You got a fire in your feet.
But will it ever be enough?
You know itll never be enough.
You can fly and never land.
And never need to sleep.
But will it ever be enough?
You know itll never be enough.
Not enough to make the nightmares go away.
Not enough to make the tears run dry.
Not enough to live a littel better everyday.
Everything that they taught us.
Was nothing but lies.
Everthing thing they brought us.
Was nothing but bribes.
But itll all be over now -
All I wanted was a piece of the night.
I never got an equal share.
When the stars are out of sight.
And the moon is down -
The natives are so restless tonight.
Ive been looking for an original sin.
One with a twist and a bit of a spin.
Ive done all of the old ones.
Till theyve all been done in.
Now Im just looking -
Then Im gone with the wind -
Endlessly searching for an original sin.
You can lose yourself in pleasure.
Till your bodys going numb.
But will it ever be enough?
You know itll never be enough.
You can always take whatever.
You conceivably could want.
But will it ever be enough?
You know itll never be enough.
Not enough to make the nightmares go away.
Not enough to make the tears run dry.
Not enough to live a littel better everyday.

Songs About Me
Songs About Me
Trace Adkins
I met a guy on a Red Eye, he spotted my guitar and said Whada you do?
I said I sing for a livin.Country music mixed with a little rock and a little blues.
He said Im sorry but Ive never been crazy bout that twang and trains and hillbilly things.
Whatever made you want to sing stuff like that?
I just looked at him and laughed and said.
Cause its songs about me
And who I am
Songs about lovin and livin and good hearted women, family and God
Yeah theyre all just songs about me
Songs about me
So I offered him tickets.I said Youll see what I mean if you show up tonight.
He said I doubt youll change my opinion .Ill be kinda busy but hey man, Ill try.
Then later on when we finished our songs about scars and cars and broken hearts,
I saw him, he was standing there right next to the stage and he shouted
Man you were right it was like you sang those
Songs about me and who I am
Songs about lovin and livin and good hearted women, family and God
Yeah theyre all just songs about me
Songs about me, yeah
So Ill just keep on singing til I hear the whole world singing.
Those are songs about me and who I am.

Eclogue 8: To Pollio Damon Alphesiboeus
Of Damon and Alphesiboeus now,
Those shepherd-singers at whose rival strains
The heifer wondering forgot to graze,
The lynx stood awe-struck, and the flowing streams,
Unwonted loiterers, stayed their course to hear-
How Damon and Alphesiboeus sang
Their pastoral ditties, will I tell the tale.
Thou, whether broad Timavus' rocky banks
Thou now art passing, or dost skirt the shore
Of the Illyrian main,- will ever dawn
That day when I thy deeds may celebrate,
Ever that day when through the whole wide world
I may renown thy verse- that verse alone
Of Sophoclean buskin worthy found?
With thee began, to thee shall end, the strain.
Take thou these songs that owe their birth to thee,
And deign around thy temples to let creep
This ivy-chaplet 'twixt the conquering bays.
Scarce had night's chilly shade forsook the sky
What time to nibbling sheep the dewy grass
Tastes sweetest, when, on his smooth shepherd-staff
Of olive leaning, Damon thus began.
DAMON
'Rise, Lucifer, and, heralding the light,
Bring in the genial day, while I make moan
Fooled by vain passion for a faithless bride,
For Nysa, and with this my dying breath
Call on the gods, though little it bestead-
The gods who heard her vows and heeded not.
'Begin, my flute, with me Maenalian lays.
Ever hath Maenalus his murmuring groves
And whispering pines, and ever hears the songs
Of love-lorn shepherds, and of Pan, who first
Brooked not the tuneful reed should idle lie.
'Begin, my flute, with me Maenalian lays.
Nysa to Mopsus given! what may not then
We lovers look for? soon shall we see mate
Griffins with mares, and in the coming age
Shy deer and hounds together come to drink.
'Begin, my flute, with me Maenalian lays.
Now, Mopsus, cut new torches, for they bring
Your bride along; now, bridegroom, scatter nuts:
Forsaking Oeta mounts the evening star!

Prince Hohenstiel-Schwangau, Saviour of Society
Epigraph
I slew the Hydra, and from labour pass'd
To labour — tribes of labours! Till, at last,
Attempting one more labour, in a trice,
Alack, with ills I crowned the edifice.
You have seen better days, dear? So have I —
And worse too, for they brought no such bud-mouth
As yours to lisp "You wish you knew me!" Well,
Wise men, 't is said, have sometimes wished the same,
And wished and had their trouble for their pains.
Suppose my Œdipus should lurk at last
Under a pork-pie hat and crinoline,
And, latish, pounce on Sphynx in Leicester Square?
Or likelier, what if Sphynx in wise old age,
Grown sick of snapping foolish people's heads,
And jealous for her riddle's proper rede, —
Jealous that the good trick which served the turn
Have justice rendered it, nor class one day
With friend Home's stilts and tongs and medium-ware,—
What if the once redoubted Sphynx, I say,
(Because night draws on, and the sands increase,
And desert-whispers grow a prophecy)
Tell all to Corinth of her own accord.
Bright Corinth, not dull Thebes, for Lais' sake,
Who finds me hardly grey, and likes my nose,
And thinks a man of sixty at the prime?
Good! It shall be! Revealment of myself!
But listen, for we must co-operate;
I don't drink tea: permit me the cigar!
First, how to make the matter plain, of course —
What was the law by which I lived. Let 's see:
Ay, we must take one instant of my life
Spent sitting by your side in this neat room:
Watch well the way I use it, and don't laugh!
Here's paper on the table, pen and ink:
Give me the soiled bit — not the pretty rose!
See! having sat an hour, I'm rested now,
Therefore want work: and spy no better work
For eye and hand and mind that guides them both,
During this instant, than to draw my pen
From blot One — thus — up, up to blot Two — thus —
Which I at last reach, thus, and here's my line
Five inches long and tolerably straight:

Begin the Mending of Unreasoning
There is a purpose behind a reason,
That plots from a reasoning...
Its purpose.
She has been seducing him,
Since the beginning of their childhood.
She practiced technique with her daddy.
And daddy practiced patience and understanding.
She liked that about her daddy.
He was torn between Magic, Shaq and Kobe!
'Yeah, but that Michael will always be the best! '
He was a sportsman!
And she fell asleep in his lap!
Just like she did,
When daddy did that!
He thought he knew what he was getting into.
Until she wanted more of what he could not prove,
He could do.
So he screwed her that night...
And he left not to return.
There is a purpose behind a reason,
That plots from a reasoning...
Its purpose.
It did not take her long to realize,
She paralyzed their love!
She criticized his lovemaking acts.
And reacted as if he was not there at all.
Feelings had been among the missing,
For days...
In the forest of hidden misunderstandings.
With her face towards the wall...
Expecting him to communicate,
'Her' feelings he could not possibly feel!
She did not make them real to him!
She felt hurt!
And he was suppose to know!
Or at least pretended to care?
He snored loudly!
'Could romance be slipping from the booty calls? '
He thought as he was swept with anguish!
Thinking with sincere sentiments...
'She crazy as hell,
If she think I'm gonna try and 'be' Denzel.'

The Gonzo Hits Medley
One voice singing in the darkness
All it takes is one voice
Singing so they hear what's on your mind
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than one voice singing in the darkness
Joining with that one voice
Each and every note another octave
Hands are joined and fears unlocked
If only one voice should start it on it's own
We need just one voice facing the unknown
And then that one voice would never be alone
It takes that one voice
I've been alive forever, and I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
And maybe the old songs will bring back the old times
Maybe the old lines will sound new
Maybe she'll lay her head on my shoulder
Maybe old feelings will come through
Maybe we'll start to cry and wonder why we ever walked away
Maybe the old songs will bring back the old times and make her wanna stay
We're goin' hoppin' (Hop)
we're goin' hoppin' today
where things are poppin' (Pop)
the Philadelphia way
we're gonna drop in (Drop)
on all the music they play
on the Bandstand (Bandstand)
We're goin' swingin' (Swing)
we're gonna swingin' the crowd
and we'll be clingin' (Cling)
and floatin' high as a cloud
The phones are ringin' (Ring)
My mom and dad are so proud
I'm on Bandstand (Bandstand)
And I'll jump, and hey, I may even show 'em my handstand
because I'm on, because I'm on the American Bandstand
when we dance real slow I'll show all the guys in the grandstand
what a swinger I am, I am on American Bandstand
I don't want to walk without you baby
I don't want to walk without you, Baby
Walk without my arm about you, Baby
Oh, Baby, please come back or you'll break my heart for me
'Cause I don't want to walk without you
No, siree
Last night, I waved goodbye, now it seems years

Songs About Love
Written by kim wilde
Well theyll tease you and theyll please you
Make you better when youre feeling bad
All hope is gone - singing
Songs about love
Theyll upset you and theyll get you
Slay your fantasy till you almost believe
Youre the only one - singing
(songs about love)
So dont believe theyre writing all those songs for you
Oh no cos you know theyre only lies youre listening to
Those songs about love
Its all over now and nothings right
Youre left crying every night
(it aint fair) oh no no
(it aint fair) singing all about love
Theyll deceive you, now theyll leave you
Leave you so confused dont you know youve been used
Now cant you see - singing
All about love
So dont believe theyre writing all those songs for you
Oh no cos you know theyre only lies youre listening to
Those songs about love
Its all over now and nothings right
Youre left crying every night
(it aint fair) oh no no
(it aint fair) so what youre gonna do about it
Dont you see its just not right
To keep your feelings out of sight
(feeling bad) oh no no
(feeling bad) singing songs about love
And if wed never meet again
(what would you do with your life)
Do you think we could be friends
(or would it hurt you hurt you)
Dont you see they got to you and me
With all their songs about love
Well you know now, better go now
Gonna mend your heart its a brand new start
Dont be afraid - singing
Songs about love
So dont believe theyre writing all those songs for you
Oh no cos you know theyre only lies youre listening to
Those songs about love
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh no no no no
Dont you see its just not right
To leave your feelings out of sight
Oh no no

Redemption Song
Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships--
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? --
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs
Redemption songs.
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Oooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.
Won't you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Redemption songs.
EMANCIPATE yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
WoAH! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.
Won't you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? --
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs --
All I ever had:
Redemption songs...
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

Songs of Praise the Angels Sang
Songs of praise the angels sang,
Heav’n with alleluias rang,
When creation was begun,
When God spoke and it was done.
Songs of praise awoke the morn
When the Prince of Peace was born;
Songs of praise arose when He
Captive led Captivity.
Heav’n and earth must pass away!
Songs of praise shall crown that day!
God will make new heav’ns and earth;
Songs of praise shall hail their birth.
And can man alone be dumb,
Till that glorious kingdom come?
No: the church delights to raise
Psalms, and hymns, and songs of praise.
Saints below, with heart and voice,
Still in songs of praise rejoice,
Learning here, by faith and love,
Songs of praise to sing above.
Borne upon their latest breath,
Songs of praise shall conquer death;
Then amidst eternal joy,
Songs of praise their powers employ.
Hymns of glory, songs of praise,
Father, unto Thee we raise;
Jesus, glory unto Thee,
With the Spirit, ever be.

006-Sing Me No Sad Songs
Sing me no sad songs cause my hearts
been broken too many times and I've cried
myself asleep too many nights.
Sing me no sad songs cause they bring
back all the hurt and all the memories that
I'm tryin' to forget.
Sing me no sad songs cause I'm feelin'
low and those songs just keep me down.
They keep me from smiling or seein' the sun.
Sing me no sad songs, cause I'm tryin' to
raise myself up and lookin' for a feel
good song and a feel good smile.
Sing me no sad songs cause they chase away
all the stuff that's good in life. Those sad songs...
they always make my brown eyes blue and lock
the door on love and such.
Baby...sing me no sad songs, just hold me and
sing softly...the songs of love and the songs of hope.
If I live to be a hundred I never want to hear those
bad feelin' sad songs again.

A Happy Song...
