For me, the wheelchair symbolizes disability in a way a cane does not.

Old Town Types No. 16 - Mr Tank

'Twice one are two; twice two are four.'
I can still hear it floating thro' the old school door:
Those childish voices falling, rising in rhythmic chant,
In a room where heat is prevalent and ventilation scant.
'Twice nine are eight-teen.' And, presiding o'er the scene,
Like a demon in a 'panto,' blackavised and racked with pain,
Urging on the chorus faster, towers Mr Tank, the master,
With his mutton-chop whiskers and his cane
His cruel, thrice-accursed rattan cane.

Some incurable affliction soured his spirit, it was said;
For, above his brow, an ever-present plaster decked his head.
'Twice one are two; twice two are four -'
And suddenly the master disappeared behind the door.
For 'twas said, too, his affection had instilled a predilection
For too-frequent nips of liquor on the sly now and again.
And they boded fell disaster for gaunt Mr Tank, our master,
With his mutton-chop whiskers and his cane
His ever-swinging, torture-bringing cane.

He 'kept us in' one afternoon till summer dusk came down,
While, as the elder scholars knew, he liquored in the town,
And a dozen big boys rushed him as he swayed in at the door,
And they poured ink on his whiskers as he grovelled on the floor.
And we small kiddies stood about, mouths agape, eyes popping out,
To see our dreaded teacher branded with this shameful stain.
For no idol could loom vaster than grim Mr Tank, the master,
With his mutton-chop whiskers and his cane.
But they broke to bits his terrifying cane.

'Twice one are two, twice two are four'
The chant arose next morning, while, across the ink-stained floor,
Mr Tank, ashamed but savage, glowered at the trembling class . . .
But my thoughts of him grow gentle as the mellowing seasons pass.
Now, when hard-won knowledge fails me, straight an olden dread assails me,
And, a phantom cane, descending sharply stirs my wits again,
And I bless stern Tank, the master, with his strip of sticking-plaster,
And his mutton-chop whiskers, and his cane
Most especially, his wisdom-waking cane.

It Don't Matter

Yes I have a disability.
But it don’t matter.

Yes I use a wheelchair for mobility.
But once again it don’t matter.

Yes because of my disability my speech is sometimes hard to understand. But like I said before it don’t matter.

And yeah there are those who because of their disability they have to talk with their hands. But you know it don’t matter.

Whether or not a person has a disability don’t matter.
We should all be treated as if we matter.

Not Wheelchair Accessible

I have something to say but no one will hear it because I can’t get in.
The place to speak is not wheelchair accessible.
My whole life I have been on the outside looking in.
Because most business owners brains are not wheelchair accessible.
When I’m on the street corner just waiting for bus some one walks up and hands me a dollar because they think I’m begging another mind that is not wheelchair accessible.
I know most people have to look down to see me, but they don’t need to look down on me. A person who is unable to see past the physical is a person who will never see that I’m not the one with the disability they are. Do you hear me or are you not wheelchair accessible.

William Makepeace Thackeray

The Cane-Bottom'd Chair

In tattered old slippers that toast at the bars,
And a ragged old jacket perfumed with cigars,
Away from the world, and its toils and its cares,
I've a snug little kingdom up four pair of stairs.

To mount to this realm is a toil, to be sure,
But the fire there is bright and the air rather pure;
And the view I behold on a sunshiny day
Is grand through the chimney-pots over the way.

This snug little chamber is cramm'd in all nooks
With worthless old knicknacks and silly old books,
And foolish old odds and foolish old ends,
Crack'd bargains from brokers, cheap keepsakes from friends.

Old armor, prints, pictures, pipes, china (all crack'd),
Old rickety tables, and chairs broken-backed;
A two-penny treasury, wondrous to see;
What matter? 'tis pleasant to you, friend, and me.

No better divan need the Sultan require,
Than the creaking old sofa that basks by the fire;
And 'tis wonderful, surely, what music you get
From the rickety, ramshackle, wheezy spinet.

That praying-rug came from a Turcoman's camp;
By Tiber once twinkled that brazen old lamp;
A Mameluke fierce yonder dagger has drawn:
'Tis a murderous knife to toast muffins upon.

Long, long through the hours, and the night, and the chimes,
Here we talk of old books, and old friends, and old times;
As we sit in a fog made of rich Latakie,
This chamber is pleasant to you, friend, and me.

But of all the cheap treasures that garnish my nest,
There is one that I love and I cherish the best:
For the finest of couches that's padded with hair
I never would change thee, my cane-bottom'd chair.

'Tis a bandy-legg'd, high shoulder'd, worm-eaten seat,
With a creaking old back, and twisted old feet;
But since the fair morning when Fanny sat there,
I bless thee and love thee, old cane-bottom'd chair.

If chairs have but feeling, in holding such charms,
A thrill must have pass'd through your wither'd old arms!
I look'd, and I long'd, and I wish'd in despair;
I wished myself turn'd to a cane-bottom'd chair.

Handicap Access

I have often been told, when I get to heaven I won't need my
wheelchair. That got me a wondering. If it's true that God don't
make mistakes, and He created me with s disability, then why won't
I need my wheelchair when I get to heaven? If I'm not a mistake
then there's nothing God needs to do to heal me. I have heard there's
a stairway to heaven, and my faith let's me believe that heaven
also got handicap access. Furthermore, I'm not worry whether or not
heaven's got handicap access. I just hope to get their when I pass
on. I was born with this disability and I'm going to die with it.
And if God allows me into heaven I have faith that the pearly gates
got handicap access.

Blow Your House Down

She did go
She got my jokes
Sit why we win
Go by the sin
Get high, get quick
Get bopping on a stick
Hollywood
Shake by go
Get barking in sin
Get high with the folks
Get down in the swim
Don't you walk away
I want you baby
How does it feel
When you're meet her in your home
How does it feel
When you feel her, let it go
Bono: "break."
Bono: "turn that guitar up there."
Sugar sugar sugar sugar sugar
Sugar sugar sugar sugar sugar
Sugar sugar sugar sugar sugar
Ah, it ain't over child
Your racing car
Raised by the boldness
You know you are
Your lips like cherries
And they call to me
I wasn't in the bottle
Next to me
I'm down by the call
Maybe the sun
Where nobody feels
They gotta give it and go
She's...gonna take her chances
Gonna take her chances
And you don't
Jump...you're gonna be the tele'
Is there anybody calling

She Does Deserve Great Sympathy

Ageing Bella in the house at the corner outdoors she is not often seen
She was a potential swimming Olympian till a motoring accident she had at eighteen
Brought an end to her swimming career back in ninteen seventy three
And condemned her to life in a wheelchair she does deserve great sympathy.

She could not compete in the Olympics and swim her way into renown
And become the toast of the Nation and the heroine of her Hometown
It robbed her of her chance of having children she has never been any man's wife
one might say she was quite unlucky that accident ruined her life.

She is quite an attractive woman her brown hair flecked with strands of gray
She had spent years of her life in a wheelchair seven to ten years before her prime day
when I meet her she smiles and says hello but sometimes she looks rather sad
I can only empathize with her a terrible life she has had.

Thirty six of her fifty four years in a wheelchair since her widowed mum died five years ago she has lived on her own
Lady luck is surely against her a terrible life she has known
Confined to a wheelchair due to a car crash on the highway which robbed her of her chance of fame
In swimming she was a young champion and for herself making a name.

Amy Lowell

Astigmatism

The Poet took his walking-stick
Of fine and polished ebony.
Set in the close-grained wood
Were quaint devices;
Patterns in ambers,
And in the clouded green of jades.
The top was smooth, yellow ivory,
And a tassel of tarnished gold
Hung by a faded cord from a hole
Pierced in the hard wood,
Circled with silver.
For years the Poet had wrought upon this cane.
His wealth had gone to enrich it,
His experiences to pattern it,
His labour to fashion and burnish it.
To him it was perfect,
A work of art and a weapon,
A delight and a defence.
The Poet took his walking-stick
And walked abroad.

Peace be with you, Brother.

The Poet came to a meadow.
Sifted through the grass were daisies,
Open-mouthed, wondering, they gazed at the sun.
The Poet struck them with his cane.
The little heads flew off, and they lay
Dying, open-mouthed and wondering,
On the hard ground.
"They are useless. They are not roses," said the Poet.

Peace be with you, Brother. Go your ways.

The Poet came to a stream.
Purple and blue flags waded in the water;
In among them hopped the speckled frogs;
The wind slid through them, rustling.
The Poet lifted his cane,
And the iris heads fell into the water.
They floated away, torn and drowning.
"Wretched flowers," said the Poet,
"They are not roses."

Peace be with you, Brother. It is your affair.

The Poet came to a garden.
Dahlias ripened against a wall,
Gillyflowers stood up bravely for all their short stature,
And a trumpet-vine covered an arbour

The Kids That Changed My Life

when you are walking down the street or
in your highschool or college
or just driving to work and see a disabled person
wheelchair or not
don't feel sorry or petty them cause
they would not change or take away there disability
because it has made who they are today
but when you are thinking about having your own kids
here are some interesting facts

one in one hundred fifty kids are born with some type of Autism
one in one hundred eighty have one of the four types of c Palsy
one in one thousand have Down Syndrome
you have a 10% chance in having a disabled kid
even if you nor your partner have a disability
scary?
I don't think so

my life was changed by
one of those “disabled” kids
Sarah Carter
she is one of the smartest people I know
and funniest
I have ever met in my life
I would have never known getting to know
Sarah and the other students in the class
would have change my life or
because of Sarah and the other students
I had found my destiny
getting to know them was the best decision I will ever make
they have made me believe
that the most amazing people that you’ll find in the oddest places
or when you don’t expect

when I grow up I want to have a big family and
within that family I want a physically disabled child of my own
because the most powerful people are the ones that have to fight for life

those kids that were all my age
have shown me that being disabled can be a good thing or a bad thing
in all depends all on how you look at it
so thank you Sarah thank you Monica thank you Kurtis
thank you Kelsey thank you Anna-Karen thank you Cris
thank you Violet thank you Jasmin thank you Robert
and thank you to all the staff that made the classroom
that the kids that changed my life to go to school
because with out you
my life would still be at a dead end
and I wouldn’t have discovered that kids my own age
could change my life

Jimmy

Well I kinda feel sorry for jimmy
Yeah but you dont know the whole story he wasnt a nice guy
Whaddya mean?
Let me tell ya
Jimmys in a wheel chair and I dont care
He used to walk his dog
And then hed beat him good
Like his pretty wife
And now theyre up and gone
And jimmys in a wheelchair and I dont care
He was the president
Of a company
He kept his workers poor
Hed lie and cheat and steal
Well when justice strikes
Well every once in a while
It makes a bullseye hit
Well every once in a while
He used to yell and scream
Until his son would cry
Then hed run him down
Well he dont run no more
Jimmys in a wheelchair and I dont care
He got big and fat
And he was ridin high
Makin lots of cash
Trashin others lives
Now jimmys in a wheelchair and I dont care
Lord he had it comin
Now hes cryin in his beer
Lord have mercy on this man

One Leg Anne's Escape

One leg Anne
crutched herself
to the window

and stared out at the rain
Look at the pissing weather
she said

she let go
of the handle
of one crutch

and scratched her thigh
you stood just behind her
watching her standing there

like a dejected Napoleon
What do you think
they'd say if I got you

to push me out
in the wheelchair
in this Skinny Boy?

she said
looking at you
over her shoulder

They wouldn't allow it
you replied moving up
beside her

and peering out
at the rain
on the lawn and trees

I don't give a donkey's tail
what they'd allow
she said

being politer
than she usually was
Why do you want

to go out in the rain?
you asked
Because I hate

being shut up
in my room

(words & music by tepper - bennett)
Cowboy, cowboy marry me
Ill bake you a cherry pie
Well thank you very kindly mam
But Im too young to die
Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come saturday night Ill court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar
Cowboy if youll marry me

Now why should I drink from just one well
When I can drink from tweny
Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come saturday night Ill court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar
Cowboy, cowboy name the day
July d be nice I reckon
Gladly meet you at the church
July the 32nd
Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come saturday night Ill court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar
You sleep all day and spoon all night
And eat your favorite chow
Then why should I get married mam
Thats what Im doing now
Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come saturday night Ill court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar

Carey

The wind is in from africa
Last night I couldnt sleep
Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here carey
But its really not my home
My fingernails are filthy, I got beach tar on my feet
And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy french cologne
Oh carey get out your cane
And Ill put on some silver
Oh youre a mean old daddy, but I like you fine
Come on down to the mermaid cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine
And well laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down
Lets have a round for these freaks and these soldiers
A round for these friends of mine
Lets have another round for the bright red devil
Who keeps me in this tourist town
Come on, carey, get out your cane
Ill put on some silver
Oh youre a mean old daddy, but I like you
Maybe Ill go to amsterdam
Or maybe Ill go to rome
And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers round my room
But lets not talk about fare-thee-welis now
The night is a starry dome.
And theyre playin that scratchy rock and roll
Beneath the matalla moon
Come on, carey, get out your cane
And Ill put on some silver
Youre a mean old daddy, but I like you
The wind is in from africa
Last night I couldnt sleep
Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here
But, its really not my home
Maybe its been too long a time
Since I was scramblin down in the street
Now they got me used to that clean white linen
And that fancy french cologne
Oh carey, get out your cane
Ill put on my finest silver
Well go to the mermaid cafe
Have fun tonight
I said, oh, youre a mean old daddy, but youre out of sight

Something of a phenomenon, telling your body to come along
Cause white lines - blow away..
Blow! rock! blow!
Ticket to ride a white-line highway,
Tell all your friends they can go my way
Pay your toll, sell your soul,
Pound for pound it costs more than gold
The longer you stay, the more you pay,
My white lines go a long way
Either up your nose or to your vein -
With nothing to gain except killing your brain.
Freeze! (say rock, come on yall)
Rock (say freeze, come on!)

Plenty of Fish

Neptune the God of the seas
Symbolizes the dissolution of reality
For all earth arises from the ocean
Unless there is some commonality
Swimming in the waters that run deep
Where plenty of fish can be found
It symbolizes emotions…
Like snow falling and melting down
Our feelings are flowing as they connect
To the present with the past
The water runs so deep…
Who will you find here at last?
Reality is just a shared illusion
Yet we all need to survive
Sometimes it is a struggle…
To find that someone right 

Chidren Of Abraham

Our Father is the father of all fathers.
Our Father is Abraham’s Father.
Our Father is John’s Father.
Our Father is Joseph’s Father.

Our Father is Jesus’ Father.
Our Father is Paul’s Father.
Jesus would thank our Father for placing the secrets of heaven inside children.
I can be 20 and you can be 105.

We all are nothing but children in Gods perfect eyes.
Children symbolizes no worries,
Matthew Ch 6 v.25-34.
Children symbolizes love,
Matthew Ch5 v.43-48.
Children becomes the salt of the world,
Matthew Ch 5 v.13.

The salt is what makes the world taste good.
The salt are us the children of Abraham,
John,
Joseph,
Paul,
Jesus,
And the children of the Father of all fathers.
Jesus loves the youth so much.
Matthew Ch 19 v.14 Jesus said “the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”,
Meaning the children.
Matthew Ch 18 v.3” I tell you the truth,
Unless you change and become like children,
You will never enter the kingdom of heaven”.

Are we not children in the Fathers eyes?
Did the Father of all fathers not tell Jesus these things,
John Ch8 v.40?
Do we fall and make mistakes as little children?

Dose a good parent forgives their child after a child apologizes to them?
Dose a child builds in growth when the child cries and stops?
Dose discipline corrects the child when the child shows out?
Many would say “I pay the bills,
Therefore I am grown”,
But dose our Father God pay the bills still or is it the ones who claims their grown?

To the ones who claim their grown of course you put childish things away and you think as an adult,
But I ask you before the world dies and becomes consumed by the dark are you still a child at heart?
Matthew Ch18 v.3,
Children of Abraham please take heed.
Before Jesus returns and awaken all who are sleep.
Pleases realize and see that we all are children.

Comparing My School with Many Other Things

From the old color blue, UCC now turns green
Why do you think our school has to do that kind of changing?
Better services and facilities, are these what it means
Or does the school just wanna change the color without any innovation to bring?

Students of other school compared their school into a jail
A jail that once you were freed, you will never want to go back there;
Some also compared their school into a baby
Because baby needs attention, as well as you must focus on your studies.

Students of UCC where can you compare our school?
Are you being trained here or are you just becoming fool?
To know the significance of UCC turning to green
Let us first discuss what does this color means.

Green is the color of nature, growth and learning,
It also means health, self-respect and well being;
Green also symbolizes money
Balance, master of healer and also harmony.

If green means life then life is what UCC will offer,
Quality life that only through God who can give it over;
If green means growth, then our school will improve,
If green symbolizes learning, the school will give the best they can afford.

If you will ask me where can I compare this school?
I will compare it to a pie, cat, and salad, to a garbage truck and to prison;
Pie because it is good at first until you reached the crust
Same as with studying which feels good up to the last.

In prison you can't leave no matter how you try,
It's just the same with Unida, it takes so hard to say goodbye;
I can also compare UCC to a garbage truck
It smells, it is big and you can hear it from a mile away.

School is like salad, you have to put something to make it better
Just like with UCC, they are making improvement for a better
They started with its color, then to facilities and etcetera
So that UCC will be like a cat which never dies
All of these will happen to UCC if God will lead us by.

Beauty is Me

Look at me I am beautiful.
There are those who see me
as grotesque just because
I have a few scares and a disability
But beauty is me.
Look at my beautiful eyes;
my beautiful lips, legs and hips.
I got all the right curves.
Beauty is me.
Yea I got scares and a disability
But beauty is me.
