Rent

(again... again... again... ooooh
(again... again... again... again... ...)
You dress me up, Im your puppet
You buy me things, I love it
You bring me food, I need it
You give me love, I feed it
And look at the two of us in sympathy
With everything we see
I never want anything, its easy
You buy whatever I need
But look at my hopes, look at my dreams
The currency weve spent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
You phone me in the evening on hearsay
And bought me caviar
You took me to a restaurant off broadway
To tell me who you are
We never-ever argue, we never calculate
The currency weve spent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
Im your puppet
I love it
And look at the two of us in sympathy
And sometimes ecstasy
Words mean so little, and money less
When youre lying next to me
But look at my hopes, look at my dreams
The currency weve spent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, you pay my rent
(ooooh) ooh, I love you, you pay my rent
Look at my hopes, look at my dreams
The currency weve spent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, you pay my rent
Look at my hopes, look at my dreams
The currency weve spent
(ooooh) I love you, oh, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, you pay my rent
(ooooh) I love you, you pay my rent (its easy, its so easy)
(ooooh) you pay my rent (its easy, its so easy)
(ooooh) you pay my rent (its easy, its so easy)
(ooooh) I love you (its easy, its so easy)

Sell Me A Coat

La la la la la la la la la la la la la
A winters day, a bitter snowflake on my face
My summer girl takes little backward steps away
Jack frost took her hand and left me, jack frost aint so cool
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
And when she smiles, the ice forgets to melt away
Not like before, her smile was warming yesterday
See the trees like silver candy, feel my icy hand
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
See my eyes, my window pane
See my tears like gentle rain
Thats the memory of a summer day
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold

A Political Fruit: A Political Solution!

A yokel’s assessment

Waiting for their turn lifetime tax paid for.

Grossly government underfunded operations.
Patients could not live long enough to have.

Rather than live with unstomachable shame.
Shame for their families to deal with if had one.

Aruba Is for Many Out Of Reach

Life once had us running to the bank.
Banking on the prospect,
That investments in a future...
Would produce security.
Security fantasized,
To feed those whims and needs...
Afforded to please.

We believed that banking,
Was then a safe direction...
For a quality of life,
Respected to protect..
In quality ease!

If this was yesterday...
It would be okay,
To think about Aruba...
And snoozing on the beach.

If 'this' was yesterday...
We'd put our dimes away.
But unlike those yesterdays...
Today pinching dimes,
Gets rent timely paid!

If this was yesterday,
It would be okay...
To think about Aruba!
Just to snooze on the beach.
And...
Oiling heated skin,
Rubbing sand off our feet.

If 'this' was yesterday...
We'd put our dimes away.
But unlike those yesterdays...
A rent that's needed to be paid,
Is just a pinch away.

And today Aruba,
Is for many out of reach.

Because today Aruba,
Is a dream hard to keep!

If this was yesterday,
It would be okay...
To think about Aruba!
Just to snooze on the beach.

Everybodys Selling Something

More 4/4s in the neighborhood
Banging on the same guitar
Dreaming of living in hollywood
Puffing on a big cigar
Prima ballerina in a magazine
Call her on the telephone
Tell her that youre sending up a limousine
She say: I dont know...
I know where to go!
Now 4/4s in a different mood
Thinks hes gonna change the world
Making all the money that some others should
Guess its cause we dont deserve
Meet a lot of people in a magazine
Tell you where not to go
Tell you that Im living out a fantasy
You say: you dont know
They play me on the radio
You gotta walk before you crawl
Remember everybodys selling something
You gotta talk before you know
Remember everybodys selling something
Theres like a racket on the ball
Remember everybody wants attention
You gotta rock before you roll
Remember everybodys selling something
Sell me something
Sell me something
Sell me something
Now!
Now 4/4s into mother earth
Hurry up and wait t.v.
Funny how your lifell take a different turn
And how you get to dance for free
See a lot of freedom in your magazine?
Does it tell you what you want to know?
Tell you once and maybe twice and maybe three times
Thats all right!
Were coming out in stereo!!!
You gotta walk before you crawl
Remember everybodys selling something
You gotta talk before you know
Remember everybodys selling something
Theres like a racket on the ball
Remember everybody wants attention
You gotta rock before you roll
Remember everybodys selling something
Sell me something
Sell me something
Sell me something

Sell It And They Will Come

I fell asleep on the couch last night, woke up with the tv on.
There was a woman in tight cotton exercise shorts
And a big plastic machine she was climbing on.
She said "the abacycle guarantees ten inches off your waist,
And 50 pounds in just 3 minutes a day."
I went to bed knowing the revolution had been postponed
And everything was ok.
You can buy it, you can try it, go right ahead.
But dont be fooled folks, theres only one.
I forget the guys name but I know somebody must have said
Sell it and they will come boys, sell it and they will come.
I switched the channels and there was evel knievel, I thought that he was
Dead.
I found myself sitting there quietly, hanging on every word he said.
"now folks, the stimulator removes all pain from your life.
And the best day of your life will be when you try this little thing out."
The camera moved in as he said, "now let me tell you ladies and gentlemen,
Pain is something old evel knows a little about"
You can buy it, you can try it, thats what I said.
But dont be fooled folks, theres only one.
I forget that guys name but I know somebody must have said
Sell it and they will come boys, sell it and they will come.
And a fellow comes on shouting "free haircuts for life!",
Somehow you cut your hair with a vacuum cleaner.
And then I switched the channels and there was dionne warwick, communing
With her psychic friends.
I watched for hours, taking warmth, comfort,
And pleasure in the things that I despise.
Touched by how much they needed me, and that gleeful desperation in their
Eyes.
You can buy it, you can try it, itll help you in bed.
But dont be fooled folks, theres only one.
I forget that guys name but I know somebody said
Sell it and they will come boys, sell it and they will come.
So dionne, cher, and all my late-night friends, I drink to your health.
And tony little, americas personal trainer, please kill yourself.
Now Ive sold a few things myself in my time, and by the way folks,
Theres some t-shirts on your way outside.
Well last night I dreamed of lipstick and tight little cotton shorts
"harder, faster", she breathed.
"one, two, three, four, five"
Ride, sally ride, girl, ride sally ride.
You can buy it, you can try it, itll help you in bed.
But dont be fooled folks, theres only one.

Orlando Furioso Canto 22

ARGUMENT
Atlantes' magic towers Astolpho wight
Destroys, and frees his thralls from prison-cell.
Bradamant finds Rogero, who in fight
O'erthrows four barons from the warlike sell,
When on their way to save an errant knight
Doomed to devouring fire: the four who fell
For impious Pinnabel maintained the strife,
Whom, after, Bradamant deprives of life.

I
Ye courteous dames, and to your lovers dear,
You that are with one single love content;
Though, 'mid so many and many, it is clear
Right few of you are of such constant bent;
Be not displeased at what I said whilere,
When I so bitterly Gabrina shent,
Nor if I yet expend some other verse
In censure of the beldam's mind perverse.

II
Such was she; and I hide not what is true;
So was enjoined me for a task by one
Whose will is law; therefore is honour due
To constant heart throughout my story done.
He who betrayed his master to the Jew
For thirty pence, nor Peter wronged, nor John,
Nor less renowned is Hypermnestra's fame,
For her so many wicked sisters' shame.

III
For one I dare to censure in my lays,
For so the story wills which I recite,
On the other hand, a hundred will I praise,
And make their virtue dim the sun's fair light;
But turning to the various pile I raise,
(Gramercy! dear to many) of the knight
Of Scotland I was telling, who hard-by
Had heard, as was rehearsed, a piercing cry.

IV
He entered, 'twixt two hills, a narrow way,
From whence was heard the cry; nor far had hied,
Ere to a vale he came shut out from day,
Where he before him a dead knight espied.
Who I shall tell; but first I must away
From France, in the Levant to wander wide,
Till I the paladin Astolpho find,
Who westward had his course from thence inclined.

I'd Lie For You

I'd never tell you one lie.
I'd never let you down.
I'd never leave i'd be the one who'd always be around.
Baby give me a chance.
I'd pull the sun down from the sky.
To light your darkest night.
I'd never let one drop of rain fall down into your life.
Put your heart in my hands.
Baby believe me, i could never do you wrong.
And i would never paint your world blue.
And if sometimes it seems i must lost my mind.
I might be crazy, but i'm crazy about you.
I'd lie for you and that's the truth.
Do anything you asked me to.
I'd even sell my soul for you.
I'd do it all for you.
If you'd just believe in me.
Just take a look in my eyes.
You'd see a love that's blind.
Just take a hold of my hand.
I'll take you to paradise.
Ain't a star that's too far.
Every wish will be a wish.
That i will make come true.
And if you want the moon.
I swear i'll bring it down to you.
Let me into your heart.
Believe me baby.
Got your name carved on my soul.
'cause your the only one that i'll give it too.
Go let'em say that i'm fool to act this way.
'cause if i'm crazy, i'm just crazy 'bout you.
I'd lie for you and that's the truth.
Do anything you asked me to.
I'd even sell my soul for you.
I'd do it all for you.
If you'd just believe in me.
I'd lie for you and that's the truth.
Do anything you asked me to.
I'd even sell my soul for you.
I'd do it all for you.
If you'd just believe in me.
I'd lie for you and that's the truth.
Move mountains if you want me to.
I'd walk across the fire for you.
I'd walk across the wild for you.
If you'd just believe in me.
And you will never see a day.
I'll ever break your heart.
You'll see the sky fall down.

Used Car Sales People

With the gift of the gab they would talk their way out of hell
These used car sales people they know how to sell
On their selling ability their jobs are at stake
The more cars they do sell the more commission they do make
On any deals they clinch they have never lost
And your trust on such people can come at a cost
The more cars they sell the more money they get paid
A hard job to succeed in the used car trade,
Shy and sensitive used car sales people one might say are rare
To sell one a car no effort they do spare
They have to sell cars or their boss them will fire
And other used car yard owners as car sales people them will not hire
The more cars they sell the greater is their pay
So to sell you a car they try every which way.

Rent, Groceries, & Gasoline

I used to live the luxury life
A new house, three cars to drive
Steppin over the credit line
I was payin a heavy price
It seemed more was never enough
So I called my creditor up
Said all I need is that cadillac car,
Im heading for a brand new start
I was in way to deep
Straightened out my priorities
Im a man of simple needs
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
I got a trailer sturdy and cheap
Hot time, job work when I please
Goin to mexico next week
Gotta feel that ocean breeze
I might settle down sometime
Right now, it aint on my mind
Got a pretty girl along for the ride
Shes the adventurous kind
I got everything I need
Straightend out my priorities
Im a man of simple means
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
Got a full tank and some food to go
Check the map and well hit the road
In the flicker of the dashboard lights
I feel my life unwind
I got everything I need
Straightend out my priorities
Im a man of simple means
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
Rent, groceries, and gasoline
I need rent, groceries, and gasoline
Just give me rent, groceries, and gasoline
And Im outta here!

Get em Out By Friday

John pebble of styx enterprises
Get em out by friday!
You dont get paid till the last ones well on his way.
Get em out by friday!
Its important that we keep to schedule, there must be no delay.
Mark hall of styx enterprises (otherwise known as the winkler)
I represent a firm of gentlemen who recently purchased this
House and all the others in the road,
In the interest of humanity weve found a better place for you
To go, go-woh, go-woh
Mrs. barrow (a tenant)
Oh no, this I cant believe,
Oh mary, theyre asking us to leave.
Mr. pebble
Get em out by friday!
Ive told you before, s good many gone if we let them stay.
And if it isnt easy,
You can squeeze a little grease and our troubles will soon run away.
Mrs. barrow
After all this time, they ask us to leave,
And I told them we could pay double the rent.
I dont know why it seemed so funny,
Seeing as how theyd take more money.
The winkler called again, he came here this morning,
With four hundred pounds and a photograph of the place he has found.
A block of flats with central heating.
I think were going to find it hard.
Mr. pebble
Now weve got them!
Ive always said that cash cash cash can do anything well.
Work can be rewarding
When a flash of intuition is a gift that helps you
Excel-sell-sell-sell.
Mr. hall
Here we are in harlow new town, did you recognise your block
Across the square, over there,
Sadly since last time we spoke, weve found weve had to raise
The rent again,
Just a bit.
Mrs. barrow
Oh no, this I cant believe
Oh mary, and we agreed to leave.
(a passage of time)
18/9/2012 t.v. flash on all dial-a-program services
This is an announcement from genetic control:
It is my sad duty to inform you of a four foot restriction on
Humanoid height.
Extract from coversation of joe ordinary in local puborama
I hear the directors of genetic control have been buying all the
Properties that have recently been sold, taking risks oh so bold.

Satan Absolved

(In the antechamber of Heaven. Satan walks alone. Angels in groups conversing.)
Satan. To--day is the Lord's ``day.'' Once more on His good pleasure
I, the Heresiarch, wait and pace these halls at leisure
Among the Orthodox, the unfallen Sons of God.
How sweet in truth Heaven is, its floors of sandal wood,
Its old--world furniture, its linen long in press,
Its incense, mummeries, flowers, its scent of holiness!
Each house has its own smell. The smell of Heaven to me
Intoxicates and haunts,--and hurts. Who would not be
God's liveried servant here, the slave of His behest,
Rather than reign outside? I like good things the best,
Fair things, things innocent; and gladly, if He willed,
Would enter His Saints' kingdom--even as a little child.

[Laughs. I have come to make my peace, to crave a full amaun,
Peace, pardon, reconcilement, truce to our daggers--drawn,
Which have so long distraught the fair wise Universe,
An end to my rebellion and the mortal curse
Of always evil--doing. He will mayhap agree
I was less wholly wrong about Humanity
The day I dared to warn His wisdom of that flaw.
It was at least the truth, the whole truth, I foresaw
When He must needs create that simian ``in His own
Image and likeness.'' Faugh! the unseemly carrion!
I claim a new revision and with proofs in hand,
No Job now in my path to foil me and withstand.
Oh, I will serve Him well!
[Certain Angels approach. But who are these that come
With their grieved faces pale and eyes of martyrdom?
Not our good Sons of God? They stop, gesticulate,
Argue apart, some weep,--weep, here within Heaven's gate!
Sob almost in God's sight! ay, real salt human tears,
Such as no Spirit wept these thrice three thousand years.
The last shed were my own, that night of reprobation
When I unsheathed my sword and headed the lost nation.
Since then not one of them has spoken above his breath
Or whispered in these courts one word of life or death
Displeasing to the Lord. No Seraph of them all,
Save I this day each year, has dared to cross Heaven's hall
And give voice to ill news, an unwelcome truth to Him.
Not Michael's self hath dared, prince of the Seraphim.
Yet all now wail aloud.--What ails ye, brethren? Speak!
Are ye too in rebellion? Angels. Satan, no. But weak
With our long earthly toil, the unthankful care of Man.

Satan. Ye have in truth good cause.

Angels. And we would know God's plan,
His true thought for the world, the wherefore and the why
Of His long patience mocked, His name in jeopardy.

This Ones For Me

Yo yo whassup ice man you look upset brother
Yo man, I got a lot of things on my mind man
But I dont know if I should put it on this record, yaknahmsayin?
Man go ahead and kick it man
Let the people know whats happenin man
You know brothers out there sellin out man
Why they goin out like that man?
Yo, sellin out like it aint nothin man
I aint with it
[ice-t]
Dig it, Im just a brother from l.a.
South central, I live life the fly way
Used to bang and hustle but I traded for the big game
Infamy got dumped for fame
Now Im known and respect as creator of the crime rhyme;
But my lyrics are deeper
Because Im the one that makes you think before make a move
I wrote pusher, high rollers, and colors just to prove
That I could kick game, and drop knowledge at the same time
But one l.a. station wouldnt play my records one time
Im tryin to save my community
But these bourgeoise blacks keep on doggin me
They dont care about violence, drugs and gangs
Kjlh, you aint about nuttin
You just a bunch of punk bourgeoise black suckers
And this ones for me
You wont play no public enemy
You aint playin no boogie down productions
You aint tryin to represent the black community
You just carin about your little ol r&b +bull+
You play all day and night
I represent los angeles all over the united states
And you aint did nuttin for me
Think about it
Hold up, I aint finished on the diss tip
Theres a few more punks that I got to rip
All you chump mcs who sell out quick
When p.e. was on the top, you rode the tip
But now they got problems and you suckers run
Whos chucks real friends, does he really have one?
You yell p.e. this, p.e. that
Fist in the air, proud to be black
Now they got static and you run like punks
I havent heard an mc stand up for him once
Maybe you suckers are just hopin that they fall off
So you can fill their shoes, nope sorry boss
Thats what the matter with black people anyway
We aint down with nothin, I dont care what you say
Yell or lie, dont even bother
How low will a brother go for a dollar?

Commerciality

Fire sign, indicate luminous pornography
Heliograph and morse photography
Signal ad, signal ad, signal ad
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality
Coherent, match and blazing cuneiform wide open
Sales pitch, high pitch, noise
Brakes too soft to burn, envisage this
Signal ad, signal ad, signal ad
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality
Package, carton, package and carton, sell and package and carton
Sell and package and carton, sell and package and carton
Sell, package and sell, package
Just revitalize, revitalize, revitalize, whats this now?
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality, commerciality
Sell and revitali-, vitalize and home pride
From tractors to tea-bags, from here to eternity, oh god, help me
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality, commerciality, commerciality
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality, commerciality, commerciality
Signal ad, signal ad, signal ad
Commerciality, commerciality, commerciality

The Book of Urizen

PRELUDIUM TO THE [FIRST] BOOK OF URIZEN

Of the primeval Priests assum'd power,
When Eternals spurn'd back his religion;
And gave him a place in the north,
Obscure, shadowy, void, solitary.
Eternals I hear your call gladly,
Dictate swift winged words, & fear not
To unfold your dark visions of torment.

Chap: I

1. Lo, a shadow of horror is risen
In Eternity! Unknown, unprolific!
Self-closd, all-repelling: what Demon
Hath form'd this abominable void
This soul-shudd'ring vacuum? — Some said
"It is Urizen", But unknown, abstracted
Brooding secret, the dark power hid.

2. Times on times he divided, & measur'd
Space by space in his ninefold darkness
Unseen, unknown! changes appeard
In his desolate mountains rifted furious
By the black winds of perturbation

3. For he strove in battles dire
In unseen conflictions with shapes
Bred from his forsaken wilderness,
Of beast, bird, fish, serpent & element
Combustion, blast, vapour and cloud.

4. Dark revolving in silent activity:
Unseen in tormenting passions;
An activity unknown and horrible;
A self-contemplating shadow,
In enormous labours occupied

5. But Eternals beheld his vast forests
Age on ages he lay, clos'd, unknown
Brooding shut in the deep; all avoid
The petrific abominable chaos

6. His cold horrors silent, dark Urizen
Prepar'd: his ten thousands of thunders
Rang'd in gloom'd array stretch out across
The dread world, & the rolling of wheels
As of swelling seas, sound in his clouds
In his hills of stor'd snows, in his mountains

Third Rate Romance

Announcer: Hello my friends, J.D, and we're back to more Alan Jackson live from Nashville.
Alan: We're going to put a little more flovor on this one.
Sitting at a tiny table in a ritzy restaurant
She was staring at her coffee cup
He was trying to keep his courage up by buying booze
The talk was small when they talked at all
They both knew what they wanted
There was no need to talk about it
They were old enough to know about it, to keep it loose.
I never really did this kinda thing before, have you?
Third rate romance, low rent rendezvous.
--- Instrumental with ad libs. ---
They left the bar, and got in his car, and they drove away
He went to the Family Inn
She didn't even have to pretend she didn't know what for
He went to the desk, and made his request while she waited outside
He came back with the key
She said "Give it to me and I'll unlock the door."
She kept sayin', "I've never really done this kind of thing before, have you?"
Third rate romance, low rent rendezvous.
And he said, "Yes I have, but only a time or two."
Third rate romance, low rent rendezvous.
Third rate romance, low rent rendezvous.
Yeah, talk about a third rate romance, low rent rendezvous...
