An Ode To A Saint Of Peace
An Ode to a Saint of Non-Violence – Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
He came from a non-descript Indian place
A village which would not have a place
In Her Majesty’s palace’ grace
What could this man for India raise?
When the Indian nation reeled
Under a foreign yoke
This frail man with iron will
Preached a master stroke
He visualized violence was no funnel
To get to the end of the tunnel
That the spring of freedom would gurgle
For the Indian freedom struggle
It is not arms and blood
Or revenge, violence or death
That will get India freedom
From the British kingdom
They can take away our right
They can make their sticks bite
They can take us to gaol
But they cannot take away our soul!
Protests with no violence
Will shake their conscience
It is the only way
For the British to loose its sway
Despite British scorn
And ire of critics
He made every Indian “re-born”
And friends of skeptics
Respect for all and love for mankind
He preached & practiced
He made every Indian aware
And the British beware
When the British enacted suppressive laws
This soul bonded us with his non-violent straw
His simplicity and truthfulness held all in awe
He gave us belief, pride and strength not to thaw
In 1930 Gandhi gave a key freedom call
Civil disobedience was the mantra for all
Salt Tax was the symbol of oppression

a.......Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
As Godse and Apte hooded, swung to the tune of the newly dead
Echo’s lingered on the Ambala walls of the gallows shed,
The pair’s verses sung, still lingered as if to defy reality
‘Akhand Bharat Amar Rah’, [‘India united, may it be forever, ’ ]
Godse’s hand that did the deadly deed grasped and twitched,
As a spirit hand ripped out the soul of a body bewitched.
Now ended the people’ choice, their Mahatma grand
His name, his work for ever will with the test of time stand,
The gang of eight cowards their plot conceived connived,
Their hate of appeasement simmered nights of the long knives,
The British lead religious division of India was the flaw,
That loaded the assassins’ gun three bullets to close life’s door,
On life for Gandhi, with hands in greeting cried ‘HE RAM’ [Oh God],
The plight of fellow man his cause, no more the path that he hath trod,
Their ears never attuned to their victim’s forgiving love rule ways
Whose bloodless coup enriched forever India’s days.
In moments assassin Nathuram Godse was quickly brought to hand,
Soon the news spread around the world in every land, ,
Sorrow and tears that would not even dry in the sand.
Looking beautiful draped in white with flower petals round Gandhi lying in state,
That sad remember day thirtieth of January Nineteen forty eight.
NB. On fathers day 1997 my daughter gave me a book by Yogesh Chadha titled 'Rediscovering Gandhi' a wonderful book, Ironically in my library it sits next to 'Einstein The Life and Times'. Einstein said of Gandhi......
' Generations to come, it may be, will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.'

Gandhi
~
Gandhi turned the other cheek
Brought an entire nation to its knees
Taught that peace can be the victor
A lesson from this must be learnt
Not to be dragged into wars
The power games of hatred
A smile into silence speaks
That salvation is calm
Bitter words lead only to regret
And such thoughts to loss
Why fight when we can learn
To accept the differences of man
Gandhi fell in victory
That his message lives
Only peace offers prosperity

You forgot Gandhi too
"You forgot Mahatma Gandhi too"
"I never believed it might be ever true"
These were worlds spoken by frontier Gandhi * Abdul Gafar Khan
He descended at Palam Airport to address audience at down
I was raw airmen just passed out from Air force centre
New Delhi was capital and main point to enter
As Delhi remained central stage for freedom struggle
It had witnessed lots of struggle and invited troubles
We were questioned by security staff a airport terminal
We had gone there to witness movement of aircrafts and their arrival
We saw an old man descending from special plane
He had only one old bag hidden under arms
He waved hand at little gathering
He was unhappy and lots of things were bothering
He was sore at being dumped by the Indian friends
He never imagined such down grade performance at the end
"You killed his spirit and him too" he lamented
"How could you do this to Gandhiji"* he resented
He had straight way gone to public gathering
From there after to his last abode for offering
We were not asking for separate land
He uttered and said they were for peaceful end
To remain as an integral part of Pakistan but with honor
They had struggled through out the years therefore
India gained struggle but soon forget frontier people
He was not sore at being deserted but undoing of struggle
When father of nation can be forgotten easily
He had no excuse left except to utter disgust readily
We read this from newspaper later and got his message
He was there with his red brigade and named as frontier Gandhi on page
He was happy with his association in freedom movement
Gandhiji was his ideal saint figure and rest all were pride moments
*Gandhiji.. Ji is respectable word

Prabhupada - Abhay Charan's College Days
While Abhay was in the college
His father performed his marriage.
But the couple lived not together,
Until his studies were o’er.
Radharani Datta was his spouse,
Who lived in her parent’s house.
As Abhay’s father was so keen
On his son finishing graduation.
Hardly his fourth year was o’er,
There arose a national uproar,
And a “quit India” movement
Against the British government.
Subhas Chandra Bose, his senior,
Who became a national leader,
Urged the students to come out,
And extend their active support.
Always non-political Abhay was,
This time, he liked this cause
For freeing this Dharmic country,
From the shackles of slavery.
Mahatma Gandhi, another leader,
Promptly influenced him further
With a slogan of “Non-co-operation, ”
That, in turn, shook the entire nation.
Krishna’s Bhagavad Gita Book,
Gandhi, with him, always took,
And read some portions therein,
While addressing the nation.
As Abhay loved Gita always,
He felt it one of Gandhi’s ways
To attain the country’s freedom,
Fighting from a spiritual platform.
In 1920, he gave up his studies,
After passing fourth year exams,
And refused to accept his diploma,
As a protest, to liberate India.
The killing of people unarmed,
At Jallianwalla Bagh, in hundreds,
While attending a peaceful meeting,
Triggered a massive national uprising.

Wealth And Racism
Yes tell me it is not called the third world!
It is called the developing world? Developing?
Yes tell me it is not rich people exploiting the poor!
It is the system and multinational corporations?
People would never do such things deliberately!
News flash, some people not only would, they are?
To poor people struggling inside a third world.
Rich people can symbolize oppression slavery.
Rich people at best may be just rich boss pricks.
It does not amatta, what acolour, a skin is...
when it isa youa, who isa starving, toa slowa death!
When it isa youa, whoisa nota gota, fullie stomach!
It does not matter what colour a skin is...
When the people exploiting you are all the same.
When the people exploiting you are all rich pricks.
Of course children under five starving to death...
do so without ever experiencing the need to learn...
the meaning, of such words terms; their experiences differ...
Poor third world people, dying of starvation wages...
when lucky enough, to get any kind, of work at all.
Or being sweat shop worked, to a dropp dead early grave...
don’t usually much care, who is classified as super rich.
Or what prejudice exists, between the boss mega rich.
Arguments and equations
demanding colour equality.
Tend to lose ground and relevance
quickly, for the dying and the dead.
Questions of race harmony
can best be resolved.
When the entire race of humanity
is fairly, clothed and fed.
For dedicated; chosen social reformers;
like Mahatma Gandhi and Doctor King.
True civilized; family brotherhood;
has evolved to protect the underdog.
Regardless of religion, race, colour;

Answer to all questions
Alcohol is not the answer
To all questions
Stated by Mahatma Gandhi.
Alcohol is not the answer
To all the questions
But if you do not get the answer
It helps you to forget the question
Stated by Vijaya Mallya.
Gandhi and Mallya
Two poles of alcohol
Life style of both are
Like alcohol but with
Difference to those
Who know alcohol and those
Who do not know alcohol
Both the persons are
Irrelevant and meaningless.

Sonnet: ‘Happy Birthday, Dear Mahatma Gandhiji!
A foreign-trained Indian and bar-at-law,
Spear-headed freedom struggle for his land;
His methods followed held the world in awe;
He won us freedom with his magic wand!
To fight the British Raj was not a joke!
Non-violence, Satyagraha had both worked;
The half-dressed Gandhi did not even smoke;
The white man's strategy was annulled, jerked!
The man became the Father of the soil,
And sacrificed his life to gain freedom;
The secrets were his faith in God and toil,
That wrought the miracle that's seen seldom!
Hats off to Gandhi who a legend turned;
The British rule, he successfully spurned!

Why did Gandhi fight?
Had not M.G.Gandhi been thrown
Out of running train by a White
That day in South Africa
Because he was a black,
Could it have been possible
For Gandhi to nurture such
Deep animosity and acrimony
To drive the whites out of India?
Out of revenge, he got us freedom.

Your name means Liberty
Freedom and Equality
Just like Mandela, Gandhi
And Martin Luther King
Your name means Sacrifice
Hope and Respect for human dignity
You are the last hope for all Burmese
Your dedication is fit for a King.
The democratic world supports you
And loves you
You are the Queen of perseverance
You are fearless in front of malfeasance
Barbarism, brutality and ignorance
Dictatorship always fails
It is a matter of time
Patience always prevails
It is a matter of time.
The enemy is scared
The junta is afraid
Words can defeat bullets
Common sense always defeats bad shots
This is a decent way to phrase it
Bullies are brutal
Because they are immoral
And anti-democratic
Be strong and energetic.
Your name means Democracy
Justice for all and Courage
The lion's rage
Will fade away soon
Don't change your tune
You are like Mandela, Gandhi
And Martin Luther Junior
This is an encore
Keep at it, keep at it
Stay strong, stay fit.

India Rising Part IV
In the late nineteenth century, the Indian national congress was born,
The public hailed it in unison but the selfish Britishers shown a scorn.
It gave a new thrust to National movement for achieving self-governance,
Spread the idea of democracy, civil liberties, and the religious tolerance.
The movement was led by two groups from different school of thought,
One was called Moderates, the cool, and the other as Militants the hot.
Lal, Bal and Pal were the fore-runners of Militants daring and intrepid,
Their philosophy was to hit hard on the imperialistic regime to get rid.
Moderates were no less though humbleness was their method to pursue,
They believed in non-violence, rallies, and meetings to resolve any issue.
The social order saw a sea change from total domineering to egalitarian,
Socio-religious reforms were conducted to create a society humanitarian.
To end customs and rituals like sati, child marriage, life long widowhood,
Individuals and organizations came forward with a zest for society’s good.
Education and equality for women was the serious concern of reformers
In future development of nation they were thought to be great performers.
Untouchability was the deep rooted evil of the society for ages together,
A Biggest hurdle to a social system for all to live with dignity and honor.
The father of nation Mahatma Gandhi fought lifelong for its eradication,
The constitution abolished it to bring social justice without discrimination.
In the first quarter of twentieth century the movement was quite grown up,
M. K. Gandhi an Indian lawyer from South Africa assumed the leadership.
He was a simple man, who preached and practiced truth and non-violence,
One, who fought the freedom fight bare-handedly with peaceful pursuance.
The English were blinded by the power and supremacy, they established,
Jaliyanwalla Bagh massacre was also one of gory wounds they inflicted.
