Senioritis
My last month or so
of high school
was the most enjoyable time
that I can remember.
I’d call us all in
sick. Pile in our cars
and head out to Sandy’s,
beers in hand
joints in lips. We burned
those days away.
Perched on the parking lot wall
our feet dug tunnels in the sand.
The day before graduation
we beat the sun out of bed. Shivering,
we bodysurfed as the sun peaked the horizon
and drank our final high school green bottles together.
That afternoon we readied
for church with hugs, hidden kisses
and more joints. White and green, we strolled
into the next chapter of our lives.
