Older Than Time
Older than time,
I have been around, always,
To light up your life.
Your eyes glittered and shown
As my light was reflected there,
Making them sparkle
On your very first date.
I was there
When you dined
And danced the night away
With the man you loved,
The man of your dreams.
I was there
The day you wed,
To light your way
Down the aisle,
Straight into
Your lover's arms.
I was the light
You lighted
At the birth
Of your first child,
And I saw your smile
I was the light
That trimmed the tree
At Christmas time
As the children danced
With excitement and glee,
Waiting for Santa.
I was the light
By which you saw
That first grandchild,
And I saw your tears
And I heard your prayers.
I have seen your life,
Your sadness,
Your joy...
And when you leave this place,
I shall light your bier.
