Old Friends

I caught a glimpse of you and me today

Whilst walking through a park

Where two friends walked and talked

Under trees filled with laughter

When carefree we shared bad jokes

And pretended to be other people on the phone

I miss the prayers the love

The friend that never left me on my own

Who shared dreams and poetry

Who made minutes stretch into an hour and more

Who was always knocking on my door

Who listened to my tired relentless rhyme

Who forgave me for never being on time

And without looking consumed my terribly bad cooking

The holidays the photographs the arguments and fun,

It's twenty years and more,

Oh how I miss that knock upon my door!
