Inside out

Each plays their part,
the unknowing heroes,
the vital cogs,
grinding, dogmatically along.

From unwilling filing clerks
to driven consultants,
from smiling receptionists
to fun loving nurses,

down in the mouth dentists
to worn out dental nurses,
from expert anesthetists
to concerned doctors.

They make a difference
every day, wittingly, unwittingly,
caring or uncaring,
it makes no odds

From ambulance staff to orderlies,
therapists to surgeons,
to care and look after you
and yours and then some.

There's no 15 minutes of fame
in the operating theatres,
no glorious applause
or curtain calls.

Encores only mean failure there,
you have to get it right first time
or lives are lost
hearts are broken.

Outside its doors
they are taken for granted
people trust, people rely on the NHS
inside and out of its wards.
