Love Sonnet 71: Why should roses be spiked with prickly thorns,

Why should roses be spiked with prickly thorns,
And honey, be guarded by stinging bees?
Why should betrayal stalk whom crown adorns,
And fruits, be picked where one could fall from trees?
Heaven demands a sacrifice so great,
As sweetness oft requires an equal pain;
In most paths, laid are obstacles that wait,
The norm is to have loss for every gain;
But these, my love, are trifles to be paid,
As fools rush in and bother not to look,
Giving credence to what is often said,
Of fish that swallows line, sinker and hook;
……..Yet despite all, to which lovers submit,
……..Life is not worth a cent if without it.
