Destiny?

What rules the lives of men: beggars and kings,
And those between, that unseats or installs,
That crowns or exiles, that sweetens or stings,
While Fate has claimed the risings and the falls?
Had outcomes been rigged for hearts and for wars,
Lots having been cast in high Olympus?
Or that lovers' trysts also linked with stars,
All to end as planned, despite the rumpus?
It has been such folly, to cross the gods,
And quite pagan for those who court their will,
Somewhere in between, man's destiny plods,
And thus, would Providence also fulfill:
......Fate esteems men as no higher than elves,
......Once they would fail to rise above themselves.
