Preservation or Wastage
Preserved decrepit, deserted
Ancient monuments,
Protected with barbed fence
Where only
Pigeons and thieves build
Their nests.
To educate
Young India
About its heritage?
Migrants,
With dreams
Of better prospects,
Live on pavements
Or make shift
Tenements,
Perish
Due to extremes of climate.
Miles of wasteland,
To commemorate
Those who are dead
And have long gone
And are forgotten,
While the living
treated with scorn,
Rue the day
They were born.
