A Lady of Pain and Sorrow
Once I loved you,
Once I cherished your phantom flesh,
Once I lost myself in orgasm after orgasm,
Once I bought you flowers (what a cliche!)
You were the Queen of hellish thoughts,
Sweet Harlot and Mother of Lies,
You made me long for your rotting corpse
In your heavenly and bestial disguise,
But now I see you for what you are,
As the rabbit sees the fox before it dies,
Now I'll see it wherever I turn,
The cold, implacable cruelty of your eyes! !
