Darkness
When I was only a child,
I was not at all a child,
What most heard, I'd seen,
What they fear'd, I'd been,
I had known death-
Her steely breath,
I knew first her pulse,
Before I knew all else
I had lost everything,
Myself the first thing
I had let go of,
Before even all went off-
I was- Darkness,
Devoid and dreamless
