Forty-Two Years
From a distant land I came
over an ocean that stretch out.
Relatives at the airport greeted me,
their arms stretched out with love.
Years disappeared beneath our feet.
Then like a magic carpet,
we were transported to a reunion.
On air we seemed to walk,
years vanished in moments of handshakes,
each face, that of a stranger, now family.
With each new, face recognition of an older past,
something to build on for years to come.

This poem was written on my Aunt’s back porch on my first visit to Canada after 42 years.
