Fog

We strain ourselves,
staring at the sparsely
lit sky,
its gambogian stars
dimmed against a gauzy,
pre-morning fog—
yet, hope might glimmer
like the annulate
smears
which corona each faded
speckle
in the witching hour's
slowly billowing
fumage.
