The Unexpected
I woke up dead this morning
floating above my bed.
It looked like I was sleeping,
but I was most certainly dead.
The colour had left my body
and with it my last breath.
It’s hard to believe I’m seeing
the consequence of my death.
I wonder how long I’ll be here
watching folk say goodbye.
I didn’t expect as many as this
or to see them when I die.
To be honest I’ve seen enough,
it’s time that I moved on.
I’m looking forward to the future
now my time here is done.
I wonder if someone will guide me,
or will I ascend, or just disappear.
There’s no point to second guessing,
I’ll just wait and hang about here.
