Am I Still Me?

I am not dead though I should be
There’s very little left of me.
I do not live merely exist
My mind is clouded the mist persists

I can’t remember anything
Although I try there is nothing
I don’t know where I am or why
I wonder sometimes who am I

Then the mists descend again
I don’t know where I am or when.
My body lives my mind has fled.
Dementia which I used to dread.

Has destroyed my ability
To think at all coherently
I am not happy nor am I sad.
I would not know if I was glad.

What Began As Folly

Even truth can not end their dementia.
Intoxicated needs to have a fix to ease pain,
Something begins crumbling from deep
With them
And a chase of booze and pills...
Numb their chills from ills they get!
As the news they see on TV sets,
Upsets a cracking understanding.

Breaking down fences they now share...
With neighbors who come,
Aware
A mental disease has infected everyone.

Crazed 'were' the ones
They lifted upon their shoulders.
Praising their opinions...
Of what they saw ahead!

Helpless With Dementia

I was a victim of dementia
I could not remember recent things
Confined to a small lock down area
When I had a visitor, I was so happy

I can’t remember that I wasn’t a real mother to you
Or when I let others abuse and beat you too
I am now at the mercy of all others
Oh how I pray you forgave me too

You tried your best to take care of me
But I kept wandering off, only wanting to be free
You felt such guilt and cried many tears
When the doctor said you could no longer take care of me

I know you searched many nursing homes
To find that special place, that would care for me
A place of love, where i couldn’t roam
A place with nurses, where I’d be safe
