A Cipher

I live in the world where the men
Guarded by the guards with weapons,
Having big vehicles and splendid houses,
And enormous balances of the banks,
Though gathered heaped unscrupulously,
Are placed on the pedestal of greatness.

I have nothing, except my astute brain
That tortures me more when I ply with
Its wisdom to untie the knots of life.
I move unheeded in the gatherings,
In slippers with unpretentious dress,
And sometimes with empty pockets too.

I live in a society with the false standards,
Where right is wrong and wrong is right,
Where matters are stagnant or flow upwards,
Where the acts of disgrace are honoured a lot,
Where deranged characters have the authority
To rule; there I am no more than a cipher,

Romancin

I' b'en a-kindo musin', as the feller says, and I'm
About o' the conclusion that they ain't no better time,
When you come to cipher on it, than the times we used to know
When we swore our first 'dog-gone-it' sorto solem'-like and low!

You git my idy, do you?--_Little_ tads, you understand--
Jes' a wishin' thue and thue you that you on'y was a _man_.--

The Avenger's Back

I interrupt your transmission
To distort your position
I is here, the avenger's back
Other MCs, their style is wack
They don't know the drill
Like my lyrical thrill
Still to be continued once again
Are you my foe or can I call you a friend?
Stepped up in the cipher all the way to the end
Knock on wood!
On the M. I. C. I start to flex
Badboy DJ, rough 'pon the dex
I is here, the avenger's back
Other MCs their style is wack
Creep 'pon the rhythm smooth like a spider
Nuff of them mine, some of them minor
To be continued once again

Part I

"That oblong book's the Album; hand it here!
Exactly! page on page of gratitude
For breakfast, dinner, supper, and the view!
I praise these poets: they leave margin-space;
Each stanza seems to gather skirts around,
And primly, trimly, keep the foot's confine,
Modest and maidlike; lubber prose o'er-sprawls
And straddling stops the path from left to right.
Since I want space to do my cipher-work,
Which poem spares a corner? What comes first?
'Hail, calm acclivity, salubrious spot!'
(Open the window, we burn daylight, boy!)
Or see—succincter beauty, brief and bold—
'If a fellow can dine On rumpsteaks and port wine,
He needs not despair Of dining well here—'
'Here!' I myself could find a better rhyme!
That bard's a Browning; he neglects the form:
But ah, the sense, ye gods, the weighty sense!
Still, I prefer this classic. Ay, throw wide!
I'll quench the bits of candle yet unburnt.

Kite-wings
