Quotes about altruistic

Bodhisattva Vow

As i develop the awakening mind i praise the buddha as they shine
I bow before you as i travel my path to join your ranks,
I make my full time task
For the sake of all beings i seek
The enlighted mind that i know i'll reap
Respect to shantideva and all the others
Who brought down the darma for sisters and brothers
I give thanks for this world as a place to learn
And for this human body that i know i've earned
And my deepest thanks to all sentient beings
For without them there would be no place to learn what i'm seeing
There's nothing here that's not been said before
But i put it down now so i'll be sure
To solidify my own views and i'll be glad if it helps
Anyone else out too
If others disrespect me or give me flack
I'll stop and think before i react
Knowing that they're going through insecure stages
I'll take the opportunity to exercise patience
I'll see it as a chance to help the other person

Smart Patrol/mr. Dna

He's been with the world
And i'm tired of the soup du jour
He's been with the world
I wanna end this prophylactic tour
Afraid nobody around here
Understands my potato
Guess i'm only a spudboy
Looking for a real tomato
We're the smart patrol
Nowhere to go
Suburban robots that monitor reality
Common stock
We work around the clock
We shove the poles in the holes
Wait a minute
Something's wrong
He's the man from the past
He's here to do us a favor
A little human sacrifice
It's just supply and demand

Pods And Gods

Martian men are coming to earth
they're abducting all of the jerks,
Martian men are coming to earth
Martian men, don't take me
Pods are landing from outer space
Pods are duplicating my face
Pods are landing from outer space
Pods they leave me alone
I don't know what conventions you go to
I don't know what movies you've seen
I don't wanna hear explainations of unexplainable things.
It's not that I don't belive in aliens
It's just, I really dont care.
I wouldn't mind some interplanetary freinds
until they come I'll hang in my own hemisphere
Holy ghost is coming to Earth
Saving souls of all of the jerks
The holy ghost is coming to earth
Savior man don't save me
The number 1 son is flippin the tab

I'm not totally altruistic. I've always had great career ambitions. But it has to come out in an organic way. If you push yourself out beyond where you are supposed to be, there's this pressure.

We are selfish when we are exclusively or predominantly concerned with the good for ourselves. We are altruistic when we are exclusively or predominantly concerned with the good of others.

We do foreign assistance for altruistic reasons, certainly for humanitarian reasons, of course. But the main reason we do foreign assistance is we do it in the American national interest.

A Social Call

Well, well, old Father Christmas, is it you,
With your thick neck and thin pretense of virtue?
Less redness in the nose-nay, even some blue
Would not, I think, particularly hurt you.
When seen close to, not mounted in your car,
You look the drunkard and the pig you are.

No matter, sit you down, for I am not
In a gray study, as you sometimes find me.
Merry? O, no, nor wish to be, God wot,
But there's another year of pain behind me.
That's something to be thankful for: the more
There are behind, the fewer are before.

I know you, Father Christmas, for a scamp,
But Heaven endowed me at my soul's creation
With an affinity to every tramp
That walks the world and steals its admiration.
For admiration is like linen left
Upon the line-got easiest by theft.

An attempt to understand spirituality

An attempt to understand spirituality

The term “spirit” could mean
The soul that gives life to your body
And keeps it alive and active

The term could also mean
The spark or inspiration
That keeps you enthused
And help you stay active,
Creative and contribute

Spirituality may mean
Understanding the former or
Keeping the latter
Nourished and nurtured

Oriental scriptures do not
See the former separate
According to these scriptures

A Song of Rain

Because a little vagrant wind veered south from China Sea;
Or else, because a sun-spot stirred; and yet again, maybe
Because some idle god in play breathed on an errant cloud,
The heads of twice two million folk in gratitude are bowed.

Patter, patter… Boolconmatta,
Adelaide and Oodnadatta,
Pepegoona, parched and dry
Laugh beneath a dripping sky.
Riverina's thirsting plain
Knows the benison of rain.
Ararat and Arkaroola
Render thanks with Tantanoola
For the blessings they are gaining,
And it's raining - raining - raining!

Because a heaven-sent monsoon the mists before it drove;
Because things happened in the moon; or else, because High Jove,
Unbending, played at waterman to please a laughing boy,
The hearts through all a continent are raised in grateful joy.

Echoes

Brothers!....
(That is to say, those of you that are.
For, even in the most altruistic mood, there are some I bar.)
Brothers!
Workers, shirkers, writers, skiters, philosophers and others,
Attend. I address myself only to those
Of the class that habitually looketh even beyond its nose.
To him I speak who shrewdly seeketh for the milk in the cocoanut, while his fellows are repeating the bald assertion that 'The fruit is not yet ripe!'
Him I address who knoweth the sheep from the goats, the chaff from the oats,
the half-quid from the gilded sixpence, and the common sense from common tripe.
To the 'Man in the Street' I speak not, nor to the 'Right-thinking Person,'
nor 'Constant Subscriber,' nor 'Vox Populi,' nor 'The Bloke on the Train,'
nor any of their band.
For of the things I write they wot not, neither may they hope to understand.
But ye whom I, even I, presume to address as brother:-
Journalists, politicians, burglars, company promoters, miners, millers,
navvies, shearers, confidence-men, piano-tuners, paling-splitters,
bookmakers, process-workers, judges, brass-fitters, policemen and others.
Attend. Him who looketh for the hall-mark on every link, and taketh not the say-so of the label, nor the sworn affidavit of the pill advertisement
him who hath it in him to discern the fair thing from that which is over the odds, and shaketh the new-laid egg that he may know what is within it
