Quotes about politics, page 3

Stephen Rea

I've been worked over by the English press because there's an assumption that my politics are identical with my wife's, and for that matter that my wife's politics are identical with her politics of 20 years ago.

Politics is there the way men and women are there, the way the Atlantic Ocean is there. Sometimes I've written about politics specifically, I mean about politics as it's understood on television and in newspapers.

We, the most powerful democracy in the world, have developed a strong norm against talking about politics. It's fine to talk about politics with people you agree with. But it is rude to argue about politics with people you disagree with. Political discourse becomes isolated, and isolated discourse becomes more extreme. We say what our friends want to hear, and hear very little beyond what our friends say.

Sonnet: Politics Personified

Fie politics, go wear a whiter shroud!
Your clothes are stained by blood of many men;
No nation seems to be of you quite proud;
Your tongue has lied and falsely signed your pen.

Your hands have been receiving bribes for long;
There is not much reprieve for common man;
All empty promises have been your song;
When will your services become yeoman?

O politics! Refurbish your makeup!
Be transparent, honest and just in life;
With friend corruption, always you go sup;
Money when earned by fraudulence brings strife.

Fie politics! Recount your past blunders;
Before the wrath of God on you thunders.

Why through politics?

Why through politics
That Africa shouldn’t be stable
Only fear, torture, economic crisis and party disputes in Zimbabwe
The once half London of Africa
While riots, violence and killings in Kenya
Unmitigated disorder, food scarcity, untold sufferings in Sudan,
And lamentations, inhumanity, hatred and instability in Rwanda then,
In our one and only Africa
Where peace and freedom are needed
And unity required?

Why through politics again
That developments in Malawi shouldn’t flourish
Only political impasse, insults and greed
The once truly Warm Heart of Africa
With Unity, Discipline, Loyalty and obedience as cornerstones?

Why through politics?

Just Too Much

A discussion of politics and I fall asleep, voices
droning about boring facts - after I had my say
about Greece and destitute refugees in the Cote
d’Ivoire, we watch another documentary about
solar power to save us from nuclear disaster

I black out, a solicitous colleague shakes me awake
I wriggle in my seat; next week, our enthusiastic
teacher says, each must do a speech on South
African politics discussing the party of their choice
in detail – I give up, resigned I decide

I cannot attend this class, I shall completely lose
my mind in the boredom of this, will have to flee
the subject of politics as it drives me insane, the
stink of inefficient states and the self-serving
politicians defrauding their own people

Is just too much…

Political realism believes that politics, like society in general, is governed by objective laws that have their roots in human nature. In order to improve society it is first necessary to understand the laws by which society lives. The operation of these laws being impervious to our preferences, men will challenge them only at the risk of failure. Realism, believing as it does in the objectivity of the laws of politics, must also believe in the possibility of developing a rational theory that reflects, however imperfectly and one-sidedly, these objective laws. It believes also, then, in the possibility of distinguishing in politics between truth and opinion — between what is true objectively and rationally, supported by evidence and illuminated by reason, and what is only a subjective judgment, divorced from the facts as they are and informed by prejudice and wishful thinking.

Saves And Replenishes With A Mending Done

A country based upon policies,
That insists a tolerance of diversity exists...
Is seen exposing the opposite of this.

Rampant division in politics,
Depicts several splits within them...
That will not soon see an ending of it.

And the economy steadily slides to oblivion.
With those deluded,
Protesting for a return of a gluttony missed.

A country based upon policies,
That insists a tolerance of diversity exists...
Is seen exposing the opposite of this.

Rampant division in politics,
Depicts several splits within them...
That will not soon see an ending of it.

We must never regard as normal the regular and casual undermining of our democratic norms and ideals. We must never meekly accept the daily sundering of our country, the personal attacks, the threats against principles, freedoms and institution, the flagrant disregard for truth and decency, the reckless provocations, most often for the pettiest and most personal reasons — reasons having nothing whatsoever to do with the fortunes of the people that we have been elected to serve. None of these appalling features of our current politics should ever be regarded as normal. We must never allow ourselves to lapse into thinking that that is "just the way things are now." If we simply become inured to this condition, thinking that it is just politics as usual, then heaven help us. Without fear of the consequences and without consideration of the rules of what is politically safe or palatable, we must stop pretending that the degradation of our politics and the conduct of some in our executive branch are normal. They are not normal.

Prophets of Old

The evangelical movement Got involved with politics after Roe vs. Wade and tied itself to the right and now it needs to go through a divorce in these last days and become universalists like the prophets of old who stood up to the wrongs in Israel based on the Spirit of the Lord and Scripture not politics or ideology. I am done with backing left or right ideologies but standing for God's Word at times takes either way. Abortion is murder but so is letting someone die without healthcare because of a pre-existing illness etc We all need to put our politics on the alttar.
The LEFT wing churches are so crazy they marry gays and don't believe the Bible is the Word of God or only the parts they want are the Word....I will be no ones shill or behave in away that compromises the truth of Gods Word. These fruit cake churches have no repentance
How can we allow a corporation like Monsanto feed our kids cancer and not label its products as GMO's or disclose exactly what it does? We stay quiet because of an ideology yet see pulpits constantly put down radical Islam like the evil is over there? Let's be consistent not prejudice.
